Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I will be laid off on 5/28, anything I should be prepared for?

I was just told indirectly that I will be displaced on 5/28. Reason being I have least tenure (I joined this position 8 months back) and FTE with WF since 2015.
I know the decision is made, but anything I can do to be better prepared ? I am so disappointed that they used tenure against me when I had interviewed fair and square and got the position 8 months back !

one other thing i did was sign up to receive paper pay slips mailed to me.. helped avoid problems with electronic access

  1. Set up internal and external out of office messaging.
  1. Cancel parking if you pay for it as well as any other commuter type benefits.
  1. If you hit your 9 year service anniversary during your notice period you will get 2 additional weeks of severance pay.
  1. Review the severance plan document on Teamworks.
  1. Check every payslip for accuracy during your notice and severance periods.
  1. Understand if your state allows you to collect unemployment benefits while getting paid for severance. NC does not.

Farewell email with contact information for the people you want to let know.

A final out of office email with contact info.

If you want to stay in contact with someone, get their contact info.

If you need to send yourself anything (performance reviews, etc.) email yourself before that day (if you have the ability to email externally).

I hope you'll be alright and the person who told you is not correct.

Max out your 401(k), change work email address to your personal email address for personal items. Catch up on any continuing education the firm offers free of charge such a CFP credit, clean out your office if any, and gather contact information for anyone whom you wish to remain in contact with after you leave. I also had a draft email ready to go to send to important firm contacts that I could send within 15 minutes before they turned off my computer access.

Think about the list of people you need to inform, and anything critical you want to hand off. Depending on your access you may have only minutes between being notified and losing access.

Of course they would use tenure to decide… you have less of the experience that they need to keep around, and they don’t have to pay as much in severance. I’ve also seen personally that new hires make more than folks who have been getting by on annual increases - there’s a good chance they’re also saving money that way.
