Advance Notice?

It seems some people were told in March that they would be included in location strategy wave 1, which seems to have been May 14. I am remote in a non-core location, hoping to get the golden ticket. Is there a policy of notifying impacted employees in advance? Perhaps those above a certain level?

I was given notice last July that I would be impacted by the location strategy and that there would be 4 waves in my business line, but was not told which wave I would be in. I was finally laid off on May 14. It was 10 months of torture, waiting every other Tuesday to see if that day would be the day. It would have been so much nicer to have known so I could plan accordingly.

I had six months of notice (CSBB, ECR, Barnhart in Oregon) along with a few of my peers. Others in my group got either three months of notice or none. The volume of work in our department was too high to let all of us go at once. So some of us had a lot of advance notice. We were given a stay-on bonus in addition to salary to encourage us to continue working. It sounds like this is extremely rare. It was honestly torture to have to keep working while knowing about the layoff, but obviously the extra money was nice, and it was nice to be able to prepare mentally.

Would you be willing to share high level details on what the relocation package looks like? Lump Sum, point buy down, reimburse as you go, etc.?

Depends on LOB. I was fully remote, non-hub, and laid off last month. I was given 6 months notice of what wave I was going to be in and 3 months notice of the exact date. It allowed me to close out projects, hand off work to others, and to mentally prepare myself. I was not wanting or looking forward to being laid off but felt better prepared having received advanced notice.

They don’t want to give you any clue in advance if you could potentially get angry and do something with your access that could make the news. I’d expect it’s extremely rare to get a working advance notice.

Each LOB is doing things differently. Some groups in same LOB different. I know of some that were given three months pre notice and I have heard of others getting no prenotice. Same LOB. AFAIK most LOBs have given their core locations so one should assume if remote or not in a core location a big change will happen to you prior to end of 2027 but likely sooner.
