Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Monitoring IP

My boss just told us they are now monitoring if you logged into company IP to crack down on people just swiping their badge and going home. He said for now it’s just if you logged in not how long you were logged in. Anyone else hear this?

For the millionth time, this RTO and relocation exercise is to reduce the ranks and for other various reasons including taxes, supporting big city economies, reducing company debt, etc…

They don’t care about your discomfort or productivity right now, the sooner you can realize that, the sooner you’ll quit being so frustrated and a victim. It’s for a season, survive it and things will eventually change down the road. Seen it before, though not quite to this extent.

retired. if people actually knew what is monitored and what is being looked at...
only controlled by the sh@t storm it would cause from a regulatory/legal and privacy standpoint. use Teams lately :)?

“All buildings have WI-FI or a LAN connection. Everyone should be connected at all times while at work. Even if you are not at work.”

Laptops don’t connect to wifi if they’re asleep. They usually disconnect the network card.

A lot of Mac’s and other machines have to use the vpn while in office due to certificate issues.

Lots of various reasons this statement is invalid.

But it does sound like something some HR person with 0 technical know how would say, for sure.

some locations you don't swipe out so this is part of the knowing how long you are in a building.

EASY answer. My office setup is 100000% better than the random workstation setup I might find in the office. When in the office, I am completely unproductive. No headset (not using community headsets), small monitor, no real areas to get on the phone or teams because ALL of my work is done with others in other cities. RTO if an absolute joke. Very short sighted which is the story of our "leadership"

“I get to the office before 6am and I think it’s annoying to see people park their car, swipe their badge and leave. They are going to ruin it for the managers that are complying.”

Why are you being a loser and complying with unreasonable mandates when you could just coffee badge like the rest of us?

They’re just going to fire you or tell you to relocate to somewhere 1000+ miles away anyways.

I get to the office before 6am and don’t pay attention enough to notice what others are doing. Who gives a sh-t?

No reason to be freaked out if they read the document that is available for anyone to read.

“It's the same thing from the video posted here a while ago. You can view the report documents on HR OneStop right now. It's another layer to give you credit for being in the office and not solely used to signify presence. The WiFi only pings once per day so if that's how you access the corporate network, and you miss the ping for any reason, it doesn't flag you as present in that category.

It's not reliable and why the badge swipe gives credit on the report above the other methods. You only need 1 of the 3 to get credit on the report. It's not Swipe & LAN/WiFi ping. You can believe me or not. It's all in writing that everyone here can read for themselve“

This is disinformation trolling - probably by company paid PR firms. No one left at AT&T is competent enough to make IP level tracking work. Swipe and leave like everyone else.

“ yep. heard this today. 9 hour day enforcements are coming, with an hour lunch. 3 days per week to start, eventually moving to 4 days, then 5. targeted for after wave 2 concludes which is coming up fast”

Pretty weak troll attempt. They’ve never forced a blanket 9 hours. It always depends on the organization.

ACTUALLY ... by law you cannot be forced to take a lunch (at least in most states).
So, your comment is a flat out lie.
Do some research. You will find our corporate policy even allows the option to relinquish your lunch period.

Oh yes because you know exactly what each role in this company is required to do on a given day.

Or if you do it’s after all your meetings and at 3pm?"

You do get counted if you swipe your badge. People posting otherwise should go read the pdf with the explanation of the presence report.

If someone has a manager telling them otherwise, they either didn't understand the report, or they are lying to you. These posts keep popping up and it's hilarious what folks will believe when everyone can read it for themselves whenever they want.

This new system seems very short-sighted…but everything T does is short sighted, so I’m not surprised.

What about days where I’m in actual meetings with real people all day and don’t connect to the network with a laptop?

What about days where I badge in to meet with co-workers but we then go off-site together for work related tasks?

Do I just not get credit for those days?

If this is true, which I don’t think it is, this is incredibly stupid.

“Leadership has been reading theee boards and learning what so many slackers have been doing.”

Good, they can tell Stankey I’m leaving to go work at Microsoft, I’m going to keep this job as long as I can, collect both checks, coffee badge to meet his d-mb requirements, and drain as much money as I can from this shithole company for trying to make me move.
Also, Stankey can su-k my nuts.

If that’s the case it’s not going to work.
Not everyone is on Windows, not everyone even has a work laptop…lots of people are going to be reported with 0 days who are in office.

T doing what T does best, making things so complicated that supervisors will just start making exceptions and ignoring the reports. They will become useless soon enough and it’ll be another d-mb tool we just put a bunch of exemptions in or ignore.

Typical.

"it literally says in the pdf if u swipe badge, connect to lan, OR att company wifi. "

Yes it is not AND which is where a lot of the misinformation is coming from. There are a million reasons why someone could miss that WiFi ping, and there are a million other reasons why someone can't reliably have a LAN connection, so it's solely to help people that might be reporting to a location without badge access.

Now that could change obviously but the report was just updated to include this so I have a hard time believing it will be anytime soon.
