Mid Year Reviews

Does anyone know how important these reviews are? If for example you get off-track a criteria, are you likely to be cut in the autumn?

Or is it only the end of year reviews which really matter?

Yes, unless you wake up and stop mailing it in you are likely to be displaced at year end.

It’s not too late to correct your effort. Nobody wants to displace people.

Answering the original post…
If you get an off track in mid-year, you will be axed in next quarter. Take it as a warning to start looking.

@5cwe It was a great opportunity for managers to give their favorites a 1000 bucks. If your manager rated you a partial in any category, you weren’t eligible. With forced rankings, it was a real kick in the face to many who worked as hard or harder than their peers and got zero.

There was a $1000 “bonus” given out in the WOW points (forget what WOW morphed into) and you could then use the points to get gift cards from the BNYM WOW store, it was given as a SPOTLIGHT award. It was RIGHT before Christmas 2023. I know in Oriskany location several people got it…

To answer the original post - it depends. If upper management in that business is looking for a head to make their goal, an off track may be used to axe someone for cause with no package. If the pressure isn’t there at mid-year it may well be there at year end. We’ve gotten past the point where we’re getting rid of middling employees and now we’re forced to tag good employees with these ratings & then we lose them. A despicable and cruel practice in order to save a big of money.

The Christmas bonus back in the day was pretty much your December 15th paycheck duplicated into the profit sharing account. This was before we had 401K's. Once it was there you could either leave it there of fill out a form and have it deposited to your checking account. Everyone would volunteer for OT in the second half of November to increase the bonus.

Was the Christmas bonus the “Jelly of the Month Club” membership?

@1jki

I forget the year but they hyped the bonus in the hiring process and I was hired in the first year of cancelled Christmas bonuses. Was very PO’d about it.

Your review doesn't matter in the least. You can be axed at any time for no reason.

If you suddenly get a PIP then you’re marked as getting cut on the sooner end. Never had one ever in almost 11 years…went to new department, there 6 months trained 1.5 people on the job that I had never done previously, was “too new to rate” to get the infamous Christmas bonus but wasn’t “too new to get a PIP” so word to the wise, the anonymous surveys are definitely not and if you don’t speak up, you should be okay for a while - unless you’re in a location where there is no longer a physical office to report to for your RTO 3 days a week requirement.

As soon as you are marked below you are ear marked for removal either by layoff or firing. Directors have to rank 10% of their team as below. Then you will be put on a PIP to improve your performance or give them the justification to fire you. There is also a PIP and Go option where you volunteer to get laid off for a very reduced package instead of hoping you don’t get fired. Enjoy…
