Preposterous? At first -- you bet. Remember it was Norwest Bank that purchased the struggling Wells Fargo bank. It changed its name. It may be time to reclaim it. What good is the Wells Fargo brand? How tarnished is it? Has Wells done anything innovative enough to get people to forget about the cross-selling scandal eight years ago? Maybe its time for Wells to go back to being Norwest. It can shuck off San Francisco and the stagecoach museum in one act.

They might after it gets split up. Wachovia was the best though no one can argue that.
banks with North in their name do not do well in the South, and at the time Wells had a much more famous brand recognition than Norwest.
As long as Chuckie is making his paltry $19m + options, he's staying put, running this ship to the ground.
All banks have a branding issue, hands caught in cookie jars so often that no one bats an eyelash any more.
Might as well call them Bank #1, Bank #2, Bank #3 and Bank #4.
Although I really dislike the McDonalds color scheme. Change that up, energize the logo.
Remember when First Union bought Wachovia? They kept the name Wachovia due to reputation issues. Wells Fargo bought Wachovia. I'd rather see wells Fargo broken up and the brokerage moved to JP Morgan. Charlie has nothing left in his toolbox except for layoffs. The regulators refuse to lift the asset cap and many consent decrees remain. Plus, there is now an active union. My hope is that the regulators refuse to lift the asset cap and force Charlie out. The Wells Fargo name should be retired.
Rebranding would cost a fortune. Could be worth it I suppose, but it's also possible that we'd spend many millions rebranding and see no significant improvement in sales from it.

Why don’t we go back all the way to Northwestern National Bank or maybe bring back the Wachovia name? Banco?
