Mental Health leave

Has anyone been approved for a paid leave for mental health? What would be the process and how long does it take?

I was approved a couple of times for 1 and half month each. The first was in 2022 and the second time was 2023, coming back end of January 2024. I came back to more dysfunction than I left each time. Hoping to be gone soon and not need it again. Explore and take if you can. Agree it’s best decision you can do to help yourself.

whaaat, they can’t deny a leave if it’s legit coming from a doctor, can they? I’ve heard it may not qualify for payment and would need to be unpaid but not denied all together..

I tried to take mental health leave after the death of a family member. I was denied, despite supporting docs from my physician. The reason was that It didn't fit their definition of "disabled".

If you have a legitimate medical condition that is supported by medical doctors and can continue to do your current role effectively at home as in the office then the bank would be insane to try and say no. If they would I would love to sue them and never have to work again

I was out on mental health leave for almost 3 months - I think it was the max time allowed. I went to therapy full time M-F during this time in an outpatient program. I did not have any issues with my job when I returned. This was 8 years ago and I’m in GT. Did not seem to hurt my career. Thriving now and in process of promotion. Don’t let a small blip in your life or others’ opinions define you. Get help if you need it.

do we know how long you can be out for mental health without jeopardizing your job or that is up to doctor discretion?

Follow the steps in Flagscape. You’re going to call Sedgwick. I sincerely hope and pray you get the help you need to feel better.

I am in the process of inquiring about the same thing. Do you start the case with Sedgwick first? I myself have never requested one..

Why would anyone get fired if it is a legitimate issue? SMH

Yes, approval was not necessary but in my case i first checked myself into an inpatient/outpatient mental health facility. Company cannot know the reason why and Aetna handled all paperwork for my short term disability communicating directly with HR and my manager for my return. Best decision I ever made to save myself. If you need help, don’t wait for approval from anyone.
