Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When will we finally be the correct size?

I don't get what the end game is. In the Bothell / Redmond area we had building after building with AT&T. now they gone, my kids school building used to be AT&T, little campuses here and there of amazon and msft used to be AT&T. vacant buildings used to be AT&T. Now that we are 100% out of redmond town center, it's like we went out of business. What was our mobility footprint 20 years ago? what is it now? are we "right-sized" yet? because my service feels like it's degrading tbh.

Less than VZ on a expense per headcount and when those left are replaced at lower cost employees either new hire in Dallas or via contractor. Replacements get two points.... Dallas contribution to RTO dilution of outer hubs as well as lower cost cheaper benefits

It is hard to tell. ATT needs to make room for Stankey's ego and that keeps expanding.

Sadly all decisions come down to -add people or innovate. Since LDP teaches them to grow their span of control- innovation took a back seat to hiring more…
So there will be layoffs as customers learn to install basic broadband and it’s less useful, less techs. As businesses realize they are being robbed by T - less sales marketing and techs.
Call centers are being shifted to India, it will be a slow painful ride to a tiny insignificant number.

AT&T also provides a lot of fiber ASE circuits for T-mob and Verizon’s for their cell services. AT&T is much more than T-mob and larger territories than Verizon for wireline.

AT&T offers managed WiFI services that the other carriers do not! It takes technicians to install it and maintain it. It offers managed internet services as well. The other carriers don't need the personnel that T needs to help provide the services. So, getting down to 100k employees for T will not be the goal, more like 120k would be more realistic!

At the end of 2023, Verizon had 105,400 employees, Team Mobile 67,000 and ATT 149,900. This year's goal is to downsize 49,000 employees and match Verizon's head count.

Once the company is sliced into edible pieces for others to buy at a discount.

Why would it take as many people to run the network as it did 10 years ago? Everything that Randall planned to grow the company, from TV service to home automation, is out of our portfolio. High speed internet Isn't DSL, bonded pairs, and Gigapower anymore. It's just FttH. This smaller more efficient portfolio should take fewer people to build, maintain, and sell.

There is no end game but Dallas. NJ moved ahead of Atlanta in importance. That means this is constantly changing

Since Stankey does not actually now how to grow a business. ATT will never be right sized until he is no longer managing the company. ATT spent $20B+ in capex last year and declined in revenue.
