Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Ambivalent

I’m one of the 20 year - old timers (near retirement age) who has checked the box. I feel like a bachelor contestant in that I don’t wish to be picked to leave, but then I will disappointed if I’m not picked, so I’m ambivalent. I like my role and our team is great, but my manger is beyond terrible and can’t wait to be detached from him. Like others wish the road ahead was outlined - so could have made decisions based on fact and not conjecture? Anyone else feeling the same way: Excited to go but reticent to leave?

The management is so poor, lacking leadership skills, zero vision and inability to deliver for customers. Its shocking how bad its gotten. I'm out. There are better options at this point.

If it's just your manager, could you move to another group? Sounds like you want to stay.

iah+1tC3XYeC I am looking into consulting as well but am concerned with some of the language in the separation agreement. Have you had an attorney review the agreement, notably section 10?

I feel they same the OP. Will not be disappointed if rejected. Staying could be scary because fot the brain drain. If might be a talent refresh (doubt it will be, a lot of talent will be leaving), but it will not be a knowledge refresh.
I will try to find something else if selected

You’re making the right decision. I too selected to gt fo. This company is a shell of its former self. Besides I sure as he ll don’t want to be left behind when the brain drain hits. Tired of the guessing of will there be a RIF or other surprises to keep the stress going. 2 words.. See ya!!

Ideally I get removed in March and consult in VZ or outside. Otherwise will try to pick up work elsewhere. I’m ok financially and would have contemplated leaving a year from now so why not? What I don’t get is the idea of trying to be all things to all customers. We are so revenue focused that we lose all realm of profitability focus. After 10% are gone that may change. I am so busy that I know even when gone my job may go away but my work won’t. Still feel like I can pitch - so it is hard to leave the field.

Are you planning to pickup another job or retire?
I commend your decision. I am close to your case and decided to stay and watch for another 2 yrs on how things pan out, had some personal reasons where I couldn’t switch to a new job for next 6 months, so timing just didn’t work out.
