Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Time to head for greener pastures

There are still companies that continue to value and respect their employees and recognize them as essential assets rather than mere expenses that have to be minimized. Cisco truly did once fall into this category, I've been here long enough to remember that, but those times have passed.

Fat, d-mb, and happy ki-led Cisco. It is much easier to focus only on switch and router “refresh” rather than true innovation…and just ride out the days. Milk that big cow as long as possible and then go on the perpetual holiday…

This company doesn’t need competition it’s dying from self inflicted wounds. Poor communicators and stage hogs galore.

You can't save Cisco from it's current state.
As a former employee I understand your grievances. But now is not the time to let toxic politics win.

Take some time off, polish up your resume, start reviewing job opportunities elsewhere, take some self training courses and be ready to move.

The annual "hunger games" LR are extremely exhausting. If Cisco knew that they were actually doing, they wouldn't have such large annual LR's. These LR's don't ensure the best and brightest remain, they only ensure job security for the ring kissers.

There are varying levels of messed up corporate politics everywhere, Cisco is one of the worst, along with telecom. Both are monolithic companies who are fighting to survive in the 21st century and have outsourced nearly all of their R&D. Most of their innovations are driven by acquisitions. Sound familiar?

Who wants to work at a job you dread, reporting to a manager you despise or fear engaging with on a daily basis? It's not healthy for your emotional or physical state. It only leads to depression, misery, hatred, resentment. It's not worth it. I don't care if they are paying you a billion dollar annual salary, it's still not worth being miserable and feeling physically unhealthy.

There are better places to work. Take some time off, reset your mind, best of luck on the job search.

Agree! Originally hired in 1995. By the late 90s growth was exponential, stock was splitting every six months, stock options were granted to all employees including the mail room clerks and morale was high. The company's first lay-off in April 2001 was a shock to everyone & I don't think the company has been the same since, certainly not today.
