Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RTO v REMOTE

Remote workers do not have this strict RTO goal for which one sc--w up, albeit arbitrary policy and dependent on your manager can get you fired for cause and no unemployment benefits let alone severance. Seems like the only goal of RTO is to create paranoia and bullying to ensure attrition or termination. How are the remote folks measured and what metric do they have that could lead to quick termination? They don’t have to take PTO when sick. Seems very inequitable.

We are in a state of transition and WF is known quite well for doing transitions in an ugly manner.

Remote workers will be largely gone by some point in 2025 with rare exception. I am hopefully one of them!

I don't take PTO if I'm sick. Just find other days to come in.

Also, don't be too envious of the remote workers. 95% of them are being pulled back into the office. Oh and if you aren't near an office, well they'll take care of that problem too

We have 4 days and it’s extremely strict like anxiety producing especially when one is sick or commute issue due to inclement weather. I think it’s management discretion and some are power tripping. It’s the only thing we talk about since it is the biggest goal in our reviews. You have to send emails and hope they are ok with it but they prefer you use PTO despite policy of work with your manager.

I think you make things sound way too onerous in terms of consequences for falling short on RTO, especially a transient lapse not a pattern.

Sure, just driving general "this is d-mb, I'm out" attrition is part of the RTO plan, but a bigger part is that you can't fire someone for not being "in the right building" if they aren't in "the wrong building". It's all BS and lies.
