Switching groups sc--wed me hard

Last September I was moved to planning and stewardship. The move came after their busy season with the corporate plan. I was moved right before the major project in my old Treasurers group. My new P&S group assessed me when and I didn’t have much to show from October - March and the treasures work from earlier in the assessment period they didn’t value.

I dropped from Excellent to Good. No raise despite the Excellent” last year and I’ll probably get the same with only a “Good” ranking this year. I’ve lost my motivation.

Everyone asks me did I volunteer for my new assignment. They are surprised that I moved to a very dysfunctional group. I was voluntold to move or my career ranking would suffer. If you move they will not appreciate it or show any kindness to you. It is the opposite of this as they will hound you and make your life miserable. You know it is bad when everyone tells you what have you done or you should not have moved.

Being promoted from CL-27 to CL-28 also results in an NSI rating. Promoted to CL-28 you automatically go to the bottom 10% and when ranking comes around you are considered NSI fodder for the managers in the CL-28/29 bracket.

@1zly ah, one of my favorites—downward pressure. I was presented with that gem a few rankings back. I asked for an explanation of what exactly that meant considering the company is shrinking but the buckets and relative sizes of said buckets have stayed the same. I’ll leave the ridiculous answer I received to the reader’s imagination. To me, it’s just euphemism for “gravity” due to having more HiPos in the group or age discrimination. Take your pick.

If you're in Treasurer's you're already at the bottom of the barrel, get out before you waste too many years there languishing and not building corporate finance skills that other employers will value. Ask me how I know...I spent over a decade in Treasurers...nice paycheck but total lack of any professional growth...

Many groups staff up with non sponsored workers just to pad the bottom of the rank groups to protect sponsored person.

Back in the day when I ran a large XOM organization, when we had transfers to the group we’d hold the individual’s ranking for one cycle to let them get established … don’t believe the cr-p when they say they can’t do that because they can.

The same thing happened to me. I was left behind by my old team/management in the ranking. Was given a GOOD rating despite showing results/improvements.

Tbh, it is quite disheartening. I was told it was because of cr-ppy reasons like "downward pressure", "too quiet" etc. which are whatever cr-ppy sh-t that is in no way related to my work performance (or relative work performance).

I shld be thankful that I wasn't thrown under the bus with an nsi right? This is real cr-p coming from a big corporate organisation. The worst I have ever seen.

I was move into a new group because my old boss saw me as competition. The old boss and his minions did not support my KO feedback.

Acted if I was dead and did not include me in any event or even call to say hello. Then fast forward 6 months when there was something they need badly. Then I received several invites to socialize with them. I declined and eventually quit.

Actions speaks louder than words when it comes to integrity and trust.

This is exactly how the company wants it to go…you move into role you’re unsuited for under guise of “opportunity”. Coworkers stab you in the back, old group doesn’t support you (so much for career ownership…) and bingo! Your ranking falls and you’re miserable. You’ve been set up to fail, because they need tributes for the next cycles. Older employee? They want you disgruntled because PIPing you is no great loss for the company, and it’s dead easy to make up sh_t about your poor performance so you’ll leave on your own. If you’re young, take this as a warning signal and gtfo.

Try working the exact same job for 19 years, no move. Recommend to never become an SME. Once you're the SME you are never going to move. Try to compete when your in the same job for so long. I was told I would never become better than a good because I focus too much on my base roll. The base roll is 140% more than is possible to complete during work hours. Sorry, not working extra.....

At least you get to change once in a while. Remember, there is always someone who is worst off.....

As someone who also moved group (from a BU to the “big” BT project), I can empathise with the OP. I was placed into a role that I have no real skill set to do, in a subject area that I have no real interest in. The rationale for the move was that my significant experience would benefit the new project. The reality is that once I left the BU there was no desire in the BU to protect my ranking so I fell, feedback was extremely limited and not meaningful. Thankfully only a couple of years left, retirement ready already, so only going to stay until I’ve really had enough. Sick of this place and the BS that goes with it.

How about being moved mid cycle to a job you have no skills in and be denied training? Instead of leveraging strengths, the idea is to expose your weakness and to make you fodder for the next rank cycle. The advice I was given by one of my former supervisor is to fake it until I make it. Seems like a lot of that going around. No thank you.

I'm switching groups this year and I expect to get a G (or at best but unlikely, VG) for the next PA. I don't know why would anyone switching groups expect something better.

I moved as well to a high profile project. They said it would be good for my career. I have encountered the most un friendly people that stab me in the back every time they can. I have to learn new systems and no one Will help. I was called into the supervisors office and told that I was not proactive enough. I said I was not trained and did not know how to progress the new installations. If you know exxon there are mocs and people to evaluate particular parts of mocs. The lovely co workers are complaining about me and adding lots of bad gossip about me. I have 4 years left and am nre. If it continues I will leave at 55. At my old position I knew everything and excelled. The people at the old position were a million times better. I could always go back or to another site. I regret leaving and helping out this new group and project. I got sc--wed on this deal. My advice don't move just cruise to retirement.
