Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Wave 2 finally getting 2 week notice?

Late tonight I got an email to meet with my boss tomorrow. Assuming I am finally getting my 2 week notice for Wave 2.
Anyone else?

For me, my experience was:

  • You'll get a call from your supervisor to tell you its coming, but its not official yet.
  • I got another call, saying its definitely coming, but HR isn't allowed to let them say yet.

VP scheduled two calls, one for the people being surplused, another for those with exceptions. On the surplus call, Directors close to the VP will joke about things, like RTO. Then they will finally get serious and tell you, you are laid off, here's your date, go look at pdf's for your checklist when it comes. HR tells them not to tell you the date, but they tell you the date out of courtesy, because they'd rather make HR the bad guy.

  • Your supervisor calls you the day that you are highly warned about. Supervisor tells you they are sorry, they are releasing your letter, here's what the letter says: "reads letter verbatim"
  • Supervisor goes into a system, that lets them read the letter they will release to you. It fills in their name, as if they wrote it from scratch, as well as dates. Supervisor doesn't put any work into the letter itself, its just a generated template.
  • You get your letter. It says you are out of there, here's some links - a checklist to complete your next 2 weeks, benefits options, fix your vacation tracking, etc.
  • You wind down and get booted. Ship your laptop, badge back to the depot.
  • Feel free to collect information from people that you want to stay in contact with. Console the people that feel guilty for staying and you aren't. Or there are people that feel like you are the lucky one and their life will su-k because now they have twice the work. Everything is typically about how sad the people that are stuck having to work at ATT and not about you.
  • Move on with your life. Why haven't I moved on? I'm still waiting on my severance. When i get that, I'll probably stop coming here, except for the occasional appreciation that I was forced to move on.

ATT jobs are like crack co----e. Its horrible for your health and your life, but the routine is a great short term fix.

Your Supervisor meets with you before releasing the notice to you. Then you take a PLE course about it.

Notices will be in email . . . you might get a forewarning from your boss that the email is coming. The official notice will be in writing.

Our boss congratulated us on the great documentation we put together to leave the replacements. He doesn’t know what we do either apparently :)

“With the sub-par knowledge transfer they received… oh well.”
We are dealing with this, too. GMs need to be held more accountable for this.

Veazey org.
We were told early the date would be early August, so I assume this is what the meeting will be. Surprised it isn’t a call with HR.
Will be glad to finally have this done. I know we have all been through a million outsourcing and surplus threats, but this has been crazy. Shows the genius of this company to let so many people who know they will be gone have access to IT systems & data for a year or more. And also be asked to train their replacement. Ha! Feel a bit bad for how many replacements are being set up for failure. Most of the replacements on our team are nice, but the only real qualification they had was location. With the sub-par knowledge transfer they received… oh well. Excited for the next chapter. Good luck to all of you in your future!
