Lets be honest, PMP's are just a check the box exercise for HR. It doesn't matter how much time or what you put on your PMP, your ranking will be your ranking. Stop worrying about the whole pmp process, its a joke.

You’ll get EEs if you’re up for promotion. VCs in your off year after the promotion. MEs if you’re on the bubble.

They change the forms and wording around a bit, but this is the same tired 'performance' management system as 15 years ago. Most people (and ALL managers) have learned to just go through the motions twice a year, then move on to real work.

We need to cut at least 5% of the lowest performers every year. No PIPs, just cut. So tired of listening to managers whine about people not performing, and 18 months later, we’re still dealing with the same people in seat.

Meh, it’s become a subjective check the box exercise 💩 now, with the loss of the old ranking system it’s pretty meaningless. Just give me my 3.5% and let’s move on.

Why keep changing the terms… go back to 1,2,3 and stop all the DEI cr-p. Focus again on bottom dollar contributions! Found oil=1, help pull oil from the ground=2, did nothing but attend meetings =3.

It's all fun and games. Don't spend a lot of time or effort on it. High pots get the high scores, everyone else rummages for whatever's left over. Unless you're a high pot or have worked out a transfer, you are "average", however that translates into today's HR terminology.

Yall are capped at 2x EE (MAXIMUM).
HR have told management that any more makes you complacent.
It's all a game

Serious question: what’s a good amount of EEs now? 1? 2? 3 seems impossible outside of the highest of high pots…

I find my manager usually has so little interest in reading results to date that I just put exceeds in 3-4 category summaries and let them “work me down” to 2 or 3 exceeds. Works every time, especially with teammates around me that can’t be bothered to populate workday before their PM discussions.

This is nothing more than a paperwork exercise. If you're a HiPot, then you'll get the better marks (exceeds expectations). If you have a job not a career then you'll be stuck in the middle. Just sign the document and move on.

Try working at CBU right now. I could see the mid year process having value if you’re trying to get an expat position and your manager is helping you, but all feels quite silly when there’s literally only a couple months left for majority of people there.

Does any of this matter? I stopped giving a 💩 this year since no matter how hard I work and results I have to show, the raises (especially this year) are paltry & promotions inexistent.
