Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why we need so many chiefs?

AT&T has a hundred executives pulling in around a million bucks a year in salary, benefits and perks. There’s also another thousand directors and avps pulling down about a half million. But, when all is said and done, outside of coming up with ways to scam customers out of another $5 a month, none of them matter at all. We are a telecom utility. It says so in the mission statement - “connect stuff” - and they do the opposite, they distract us from helping customers. Am I wrong if we laid off all of the executives, we’d be doing the same thing we’ve been doing for the last few decades, hooking people us with phones? Why do you need a thousand Chiefs when we all know how to do our jobs? The marketing team hasn’t change to price much other than to sham a few more bucks for protection insurance or bogus fees. The network team is giddily outsourcing maintenance and construction projects since it’s all software now. The finance team is cooking up new ways to ignore looming bankruptcy. The sales team is cultivating the next generation of fraudsters. Don’t get me started on the scandals going on in HR. Just fire them all and make a call center area manager the top boss. I’m 99% sure they would say, “Everybody do their job, make customers happy, and I’ll see you on payday.”

“ That's not true at all. In fact after most of their safety team was let go, Twitter faced a whole bunch of problems and still face problems.”

Funny thing - when I checked X/Twitter this morning, it was working fine. Proof positive that most employees of any large organization add no value.

T does NOT need 85-90% of those “chiefs”. They should eliminate 2+ levels of superfluous “VPs” asap. The workers bee’s are constantly shafted while the stuffed suits rake in the dough!

Look at Twitter - slash 3/4 of the workforce and everything still works.

Can Artificial Intelligence just automate payroll, vacation time etc etc and keep managers but get rid of middle management? What is the purpose of middle management if 1st level managers do all the work?

This company is no different from society as a whole. Most people contribute very little to the bottom line. Look at Twitter - slash 3/4 of the workforce and everything still works. AT&T and other companies can and likely will follow Musk’s example to varying degrees. At the end of the day, the company could survive quite well slashing at all levels - management and union.

Similar to the union. The National union keeps a bloated payroll for a massive amount of staff. Most of the dues only goes to pay overhead.
