I’m getting tapped to provide detailed receipts for nearly every medical expense. I understood the dermatologist but the one where I was put into the hospital for a few days? I feel like my HIPPA rights are being violated.

Did they give you a reason why they are asking for receipts? It does feel like a HIPAA violation. The expenses are between you, the bank managing the account, and the IRS. Your employer should not be asking for receipts.
Thanks to those that replied. Yes, the request is from the Bank.
So sorry to hear you are going thru this. I, too, find it a total P.I.T.A. to have to submit medical receipts for medical charges. I only charge medical stuff, and they can see the vendor, etc. but still asked for the d@mned paper trail. (grrr!)
Alas, there is SO MUCH FRAUD in this space with people (ab)using Health Care accounts for NON-HEALTH expenses (can you say "trip to DisneyWorld for a Family of Four"?), that the IRS needs to be sure the pre-tax funds are being used as intended. (for bona fide medical expenses)
Blame the fraudsters, not the IRS nor the Bank.
Yes, it's a pain, but unfortunately necessary.

How were you asked to provide receipts, by whom i mean? The IRS, the company?
This is normal. The rules require receipts.
