Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Bridget Engle - Competent?

Or just another Scharf lackey?

WF just demoted the Head of Technology, Tracy Kerrins and hired Bridget Engle as Head of Technology.

Tracy Kerrins has been a disaster since she was given the role in spring 2023.

Can we expect more of the same from Bridget? Or is she ok?

Bridget inherited a mess from Suresh, the master of disaster, as well as the wrecker of systems. She succeeded in Greenfield where Suresh quit and ran from the Bank and his history of broken promises and it was finally time to put up or shut up.

When @2pio posted, there should have been a flag “Bridget entering the chat.” Who else would stick up that hard for some chick leaving the bank? 😂

Heads up and caution to BNY moving over, we're larger and more colossallly sc--wed up. We pay lower than industry and tech and the business do not get along. 5 years into a failed agile/scrum transformation that can't get any real traction due to kingdom building and massive anti-patterns with no top-down leadership. Get ready to work your b-ms off and also relocate to one of our hubs only to be laid off and offshored. Go check out our layoff page and you'll see.

Bridget loves her yes men at BONY the leadership of a large transformation GreenField was run by a pair of incompetent Brits who acted like her liege lords. So badly handled from execution and expense standpoint the squandered $ bordered on criminal. The lords covered up the absolute boondoggle and punted all responsibility to other teams who had no participation of the master plan but were burdened with getting it done properly while the lords Liliwhite and Massem took all credit and ascended the throne.

Your jobs will be farmed out to India just like every other bank and if not the suffering will be unbearable, personal experience with her and her orgs left a sour taste regarding corporate predators treating people like units of production.

@2iyi

No she didn’t. GF was just another of Suresh’s many half baked idea which he sold up to leadership….

… and then promptly left.

Bridget was left as his bag holder and she pulled it off, no thanks to Suresh who was always just a smoke and mirrors guy.

Hardly bitter, @3ctn. I just like to call out obvious bad policies plus I still have a pretty big stake in BK doing good.
I admit that GF was a pretty big mess but Bridget didn't do much to change that and half our systems were already migrated by the time she showed up. And it was still a fuster cluck with TSG using systems designed to handle a couple dozen requests per day to handle thousands of requests that all should have automatically been done as part of handing us new VMs/containers.

Will Kerrins be exploring other opportunities once Engle is up and running?

2iyi has it completely wrong. He or she is just bitter from being let go.

Bridget inherited a gigantic mess and cleaned it up. If not for her there would have been no Greenfield and there would have been ongoing massive fines from regulators. She always brings the brightest and most focused talent with her which is why she has been successful. I expect a mass exodus of tech talent from BNY over the coming year.

@2pio, she came in when green field was half done. Kudos to her for continuing to fund the transition, but it was NOT her doins.
Plus, she fired me and many of my co-workers when we COULD have been working on important things such as automated build and deploy and failover and stay. Or implementing system enhancements to drastically cut operation's workload that we had to delay for YEARS while converting to GF.

What im reading here is crazy. Bridget completely transformed BNY from old non standard tech to modern compliant systems with proper monitoring and a team of smart leaders. She built a command center that bny still shows off to clients to impress them with the apparatus. She also brings the brightest and best who’s proven themselves to her from all her from all her years in the industry. She has a strong loyal network that will benefit WF.

Thankfully at least one person remembers a few years back. Talk about loss of short term memory…..

Replying to @lbj+1tLiJkle

She was all in favor of technology RTO. From what I heard, she was the same at Bank of America. Of course, she could just be following mandates from above - it's not like we really know how they feel about anything. It's all a facade they put forward to get those big salaries...gotta play to get paid!

I have no idea about her ability with talent acquisitions - way above my pay grade.

Simple answer is Yes . For the poster who said the common denominator is Scharf…. Agree . He hires really bad talent. Really bad executives who know little about building a culture.

The first and only rule of the executive Red Rover game is loyalty to the one who brings you over, not competency.

Scharf hired Kerrins and now Engle. The common denominator is Scharf.

So glad Brigit is moving on to ruin another organization. Seems the previous HoT , Kerrins was just as bad as Brigit . Who would have thought that was possible.

Bridget and Charlie Scharf were hired nearly simultaneously and did not know each other pior to working it home another.

So known for outsourcing, what about forcing technology RTO? How does she get and retain top talent as we're being told she's great at? Heard she's good at poaching.
