Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

What was your deciding factor for leaving?

This is a question for those who quit but still occasionally check on things on this forum. What was the final straw that made you decide to leave Crown? Was there a specific incident or reason that pushed you from just thinking about it to making the move? Maybe it was the pay or the lack of job security? Something else? I've been on the fence about leaving for a while now, and I can't force myself to make the final decision. Any insights any of you have would be helpful as I try to figure this out!

Who was that outsider hired into SCN a few years back under DEI and all she did in her office was play with her employee’s duck under the table in her office ?
DEI IS USELESS

“ I come on this site to complain how the companies DEI policy, my supervisor and work place politics is the reason I never advanced in my 15 yrs at crown. It makes me feel better when other agree rather than looking inwards at my own career and how I played the game and blaming myself. Oh yeah and I gained weight bc they cut the gym membership.”

So it’s the company’s fault you’re fat and lazy. Got it.

We were hitting that goal with the gym membership so you are just another one spreading rumors.

Huh? My supervisor isn’t able to tuck in his button down dress shirts because he’s so fat and his belly pop out like 10 inches from his body. He is leaving the company in December. If that was true he wouldn’t be leaving the company.

“Most people on this site are lame. They either left or they start begging for gossip. The amount of people asking which groups were impacted by this last round is just silly. If you weren't and don't know anyone who was, just mind your business.”

I know right! The nerve of some people coming to thelayoff.com to find out about layoffs in their company. How silly is that! How dare they!

If you left and still posting and coming to this site. That’s pretty lame.

“They have unskilled Project Managers and other titles that you have to truly earn at other companies. Clerical staff at my new job does what PM’s do at crown. These PM’s won’t have a clue what to do if they get hired at another company with the same title.”

Truth! I have been saying it for years! PMs at Crown would not last 6 months in a PM role outside of Crown. Crown loves throwing the title of Project Manager around when they can’t think of a real title that fits the role. PMs that are trying to leave or who are laid off will be absolutely shocked at what a real PM does.

Truth! I have been saying this for years! A vast majority of the people with the title of Project Manager would not last 6 months with another company. Crown Castle just throws the title of Project Manager around when they can’t think of a real title to give to someone. These people are going to be absolutely shocked when they find out what a real PM does.

Realizing the work I performed at crown was not very marketable or competitive in the rest of the working world. It earns you promotions or Crowns, yay! They have unskilled Project Managers and other titles that you have to truly earn at other companies. Clerical staff at my new job does what PM’s do at crown. These PM’s won’t have a clue what to do if they get hired at another company with the same title. I left while the skills I learned at previous job were still relevant. Nothing performed at crown gained anything in the real world. If you only have Crown experience, go back to school and/or get certifications or other updated education to add to your résumé. The final straw is just realizing that never knowing if you’re going to have a job when you go to work, even some of the time, is no way to live, especially no way to build a “career”. Maybe you’re comfortable, or don’t want to deal with change, but it’s always better to find a new job on your own terms when you’re not desperate and can choose what’s best for you. Every person I know who has left Crown on their own terms instead of layoff the past two years is earning a higher salary or fully remote permanently, or a much more reliable, secure company. Don’t dance for a bonus, when you can get that built into your next salary when you negotiate. If you look now, you lose nothing. You might just gain a new adventure.

  1. 63 years old at the time of the first RIF. 2) Jumped ship when I heard what was offered in the severance. 3) Had 24+ years in a unique niche position that would unlikely be matched elsewhere yet enough investments for it to kick in when I needed it…..It was a perfect timing

Not a woman, but am in a marginalized group. I’m still underpaid compared to my white male counterparts.

I left after bonus payment. I worked in towers and felt after the mass layoff there was a chance we’d be safe from further reductions, but the straw that broke the camels back was pay. Our team had different salary levels performing the same duties. When I requested to be bumped up to the next pay grade I was denied despite having a larger work load than those above me. Found a new opportunity with a 15K base salary bump so at that point it was a no brainer. I actually miss my team members and my managers, which is rare, but being away from consistently fearing for my job while being underpaid is a relief off my shoulders. I hope everyone who wants out makes it out.

DEI? Again. That’s some white middle-aged man who thinks the women and darker-skinned people are going to “steal” their jobs (because they are better qualified than you). Got some news for you, buddy, DEI stands for “Definitely Earned It” because it was an uphill battle just for them to get an interview. Whereas you probably got your job because you are a nepo-hire white male who knew someone and DIDN’T earn it.

If you’re seriously scared of someone taking your job, then you are obviously insecure.

I saw the writing on the wall early 2023. I've made enough friends through my career that a few phone calls got me out very quickly. Once the DEI came into play and the PURPLE bs was implemented and they wiped their arses with the B3, I was gone. The management in the south under the leadership of RP is a sh-t show. They run it like a mafia. If you are not in the click, you are a target. The constant management changes and garbage hires don't jive with the old crown. They have supervisors and managers that don't have the slight idea what their subordinates do. How can you he in that type of position and not now sh-t about the position? Too much great talent has been wasted in Crown.

I left soon after they told us we were not moving to Houston and took the severance package off the table. My department was and is still drowning with no support and no one cared. I felt like I was working completely on an island by myself. Supervisor completely neglected the need of her team. Going back in the office 4 days just gutted me. I have a new job with a higher pay scale. Don't be afraid to get out. Life is too short to be that miserable. Good luck with your decision.

Since we’re in the process of canceling projects under the Verizon contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more layoffs that are market specific based on those projects going away. There are a couple of locations where Verizon has Agreed to cancel many if not all of the work. If that’s the case, they would probably let go anyone working on those types of projects.

The final straw for me was when they said they were forcing Southpointe employees to relocate to Houston, I had put my résumé up everywhere during those weeks afterward. Then, offered me a very nice severance package if I stayed, so I took my resumes down.a few weeks later, they changed their mind again decided not to relocate and pull the severance offer. That was enough for me. My job is sooo much better! 100% wfh!

Incompetent and dishonest boss was the last straw for me. It’s not always the company but the boss that is most important.

It’s fu--ing miserable. I am still here but actively applying and interviewing elsewhere. They stripped away all support and the pay is awful. They act like this is the best place ever. Guess what places pay more, have better benefits, and have work life balance. Work is piling on while they refuse help but still can afford all the luxuries for the EMT. Fu-k them. Rules for thee but not for me. The grass is greener from everyone I know who left.

I bet our insurance premiums skyrocket this year. I bet snacks go away. They turn the heat down in all the buildings. Make everyone in all states but Texas come in when the weather is bad no matter what. It’s miserable.
