Consolidation to Baytown?

Starting to hear rumor of some labs/areas from Clinton/Sarnia going to Baytown instead of Spring. Anyone else?
Is the lab area in Baytown open/ready for an influx of equipment (unlike the Spring lab building that is currently being rebuilt)?
Some of us wondering if Baytown is part of the consolidation, will parts going there happen sooner than those going to Spring...

Any updates/rumors on Annandale closing timeline?

How about progress converting/building the replacement facilities down in TX?

This is still under debate.
After all, Spring only gets the tax breaks if it has a certain number of seats filled at the buildings there.
And government subsidies are our bread and bread.

Why do y’all need an exact date. Just assume it’s happening in the near future. You should be aggressively looking for another job or bite the bullet and move.

You control your future so why are you hung up on a date. The decision is done and over.

Yes this is the master plan
Reduction of research at hc10. Emtec reduction as well. I am going to ride it as long as I can then retire. I suggest you do the same. Remember you are forewarned of what is coming so be prepared. I always have one foot out of the door. Keep the mindset of year to year contractors.

@1ili nailed it. They want all of you to leave so they can achieve the HC10 reduction goal. The so called "move" is just a tactic of hardship to push for that. Remember, XOM is a commodity company. There's really no need for a "consolidated research facility" in Houston

@1nyl+1tMZyy7q, indeed. A couple months ago we had heard "maybe May 2025" for some Clinton site PI's/MTS's to move as part of a first wave. It seems here like things are moving MUCH faster than that in terms of prep. For example, there is a team of supervisors/SH's from Clinton currently down in TX scoping out which instruments/units will go to Baytown or Spring.
Two weeks ago the technicians/mechanics found out that the company won't take any of them, even those that want to go...so they're even more in the dark about any timelines.
I know I'd love to even get a summary of the presentation supposedly shown Upstream.

@1nyl+1tMZyy7q The reason you don't know about the timelines etc. is that Darren doesn't want you to move. He wants you to resign or not meet the deadlines. Believe me. The deadlines will be communicated a couple of weeks in advance and you'll have to decide on the fly. Remember THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO MOVE, THEY WANT YOU TO RESIGN.

@1eji, that is amazing...we know nothing at the moment. There was a presentation??
They keep telling us they don't know anything about timelines for (example) Clinton/Sarnia moves to Spring/Baytown.

The whole plan was played out to upstream. Timelines for moves and costs. There was a presentation as well. It is happening so be ready to move.

@1ybd, not necessarily. I currently work for EM at one of the NA sites that are closing. They don't tell us "ground troops" anything. We have to dig & glean for any info we can get.

They are transparent internally.

@1zwd, not communicated to everyone. Many of us have been left completely in the dark on timelines and move locations per group/equipment.

Not a rumor. It was communicated to us

@aju EMHC $1 Billion? Seriously. You are way low on that guess. Notice that all capital projects the cost is widely know and communicated even to shareholders. Did you ever see the cost of this project. Try somewhere north of $4 Billion when all added together .

Future technology centers will be overseas, didn’t one just get built in China?

There is even more space buildings unused at EMHC. They are just renovating science one but there are other unused buildings at EMHC. There is a reason they keep BTEC and the friends wood sites. They don't want H2S or dirty stinky oils at EMHC. So these sites serve their purpose for now. Feel that in the future more will be consolidated to EMHC. It makes sense to have everything under one roof. Follow the money. It will be someone's great idea and on their pdap eads whatever it is now.

Space is the problem. No extra space at BTEC. EMHC has lots of unused space. They spent over a billion dollars on the campus and most is vacant. Cost savings and consolidation are the keys. EMHC is also better for tours. It is clean and nice. EMHC is a good place to show off for the media. Baytown is dirty and smelly.

I thought BTEC East will be demolished and Clinton lab will move into BTEC West.
But seriously, how many people are moving out of the 300 or so that are eligible? 100? Is it real that hard to find a job outside of XOM?

That was always the plan. That was communicated to us from the start. Some stuff is going to EMHC and other stuff, specifically pilot plants and dirtier/louder non office friendly stuff is going to Baytown East I believe. Anyone currently stationed in Baytown east is being moved to Baytown west.
