Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Enough with the victim blaming

Ok folks, behave. I’m sick of the victim blaming. Of those that are stuck here, most have a good reason: family situation, hard time finding a job because they are in a niche role, in a common job but the market has been repeatedly flooded due to the CC and other telecom layoffs, or horrible job market in their area. Just because they haven’t found a job, doesn’t mean they are lazy, ignorant, or unemployable.

Don’t judge others based on your own situation. I doubt any stranger would walk up to you on the street and say, “You’re still there because you’re a bad employee.”

I’ve got news for you, the bad employees were already let go (alongside a lot of good and great employees). When a RIF happens, the leaders are typically given a target number. They then go through and knock if the lower skilled workers first, then they look at the rest and see who is the highest paid, ready for retirement, etc. Then they go through the rest and weigh their decisions. Very few are out there picking all of their friends…otherwise they would be on the chopping block, too.

In this last RIF, I know a few ineffective leaders who were let go along with their “friends” they’ve been covering for.

I thought this belonged on the top. Taken from @5wwq+1tGpzLhI.

My team remains unchanged. I work on a high performing team that remains basically unchanged since the RIF. I like my job but don’t live for it. I go to work, put in an honest days work and go home. I hope to retire from Crown

You're probably young so you don't realize how incorrect you are. Anyone hiring a non specialized position would prefer 15 years of experience over a degree with no experience.

Experience in lieu of a degree stop being relevant after about the age of 30.

No, most top employers don't require it. The opposite actually, big tech found out over a decade ago that academic achievement doesn't correlate to professional success. It's not hard to Google that fact, it has been pretty big news.

Also before you accuse me, I'm not being defensive I have a BS and a MBA.

Sounds like a read out from 1995. You couldn’t be more wrong.

Idk seems like most top employers still prefer 4-year degrees over someone with just an Associates, High School diploma or GED.

Experience is usually considered in lieu of Bachelor’s if they don’t have any applicants. A lot of people here without 4-year degrees because most Americans don’t have a Bachelor’s.

Degrees aren't even concidered once you have an relevant experience. It isn't the 80s.

I am here bc it’s not that bad. My team is good, my manager is good there is work. I don’t have pet insurance and have to pay for the gym but we can’t have it all. I don’t yearn for the old b3 days or care about culture. I do my work and go home.

Some people are still here because their manager knew they wouldn’t be able to find another job because they are either uneducated without a college degree, in their 60s or near it, and are job clingers unable to find employment outside of Crown because of their complacency.
