Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Guyana True Story

About time this story get out. Someone needs to remind the executives why we need technical people. If anything article was too forgiving of management and executives. Technical people who pushed for Guyana are freaking heros who saved the company. What would we have if we didn’t have Guyana? I’m sure executives have rewarded themselves nicely for Guyana which they repeatedly tried to ki-l while forgetting the technical people.

All lies. I discovered Guyana. It's mine!

@1bbn+1tNEG7BV - very accurate; we probably know each other.

@1lrm+1tNEG7BV - not much, tried to insert themselves into the work of the team post-Liza discovery and generally caused problems. You can see who gets the credit at EM though.

Randy P probably did more than just about anyone to make Liza happen. I hope he's doing ok. A lot of the people who worked the big discoveries on Stabroek are gone or sidelined now.

So what role did the "Explorer of the Year" play?

Scott did the interpretation of the 3D data shot by Shell. Two small patches of 3D were shot: one over Shell's preferred prospect (Deconick), the second patch was later shot over Liza. Both patches of 3D were identified by 2D lines (only one 2D line went over Liza). No other prospects were identified on 2D. Randy P did all the work on the 2D and he defined the patches of 3D areas to shoot. Scott was brought in to evaluate the 3D data...His optical smash of Liza 3D is legendary. Some people below are trying to denigrate Scott's work...

One can’t deny that many of the executive class tried to ki-l Guyana. Meanwhile they were all in on Brazil dry holes time and time again. I’m sure their courage of conviction ranked well even if dead wrong though.

I found the article to be more than a little self-aggrandizing, particularly with respect to the geo S D. I doubt he was the only one who ‘spotted’ Guyana. Humility is a virtue.

What’s sad is the executives today are profiting off the work of those 10 years ago. Those on the Guyana team I wonder what compensation they received. They probably have Exxon stock but nowhere near enough for the value they created to compensate. But DWW is happy getting his 200K shares/year.

@rsm+1tNEG7BV How familiar are you with be gas to power project in Guyana?

Did it by scr*wing over Guyana. Paying off officials and giving nothing to the citizens to whom the resource really belongs.

There were 2 chief geoscientists in exploration at the time of the 2013 peer review and another dozen or so STCs...Which one said that?

Scott didn’t do anything. He didn’t find Liza.

Just as bad or worse than decision to sell all assets in Permian. Pegasus, Spraberry, etc all sold at low prices and then bought back at high prices. How UNCONventional!

And someone tell me why did Scott leave the company? He should have been rewarded and promoted. What’s joke that our executives take credit for Guyana and drive the real heros out of the company.
