If you believe S&D or your skill level plays any importance in what assignments you receive think again! It is just a mirage to give non HIPOS a feeling of control and purpose where there is none. If you aren’t. HIPO there is zero thought given to your career. They just move you around last minute as needed. There is no long term plan for you.

Sponsorship and HiPo designation far more important than capabilities and proven experience.

S & D no longer require endorsements from department leadership to install HiPos into critical positions because the HiPos are unqualified and the skillset owners kept rejecting them for positions.

I IPR interviewed a HiPo former refinery supervisor about her deep water management position and she admitted that she knew nothing about her position and relied completely on the team, but this was not an issue because she was only in her position briefly for exposure to varied segments and had been told she was moving on to another step in her ladder within weeks.

Her only care was PowerPoint based on the work of her team, that she admitted she did not know what they did.

In our organization they have others review what your supervisor has already reviewed. Often they will downgrade the ratings - which is interesting. You'd think that your direct supervisor would know best how you should be rated. Truly a waste of time. Doesn't matter anyway.

Spitting facts. This is a useless exercise for anyone that is not HiPos. Literally never reviewed, consulted, etc. All it does is give a semblance of career development. I’ve literally put the same thing in there since it was created with no discussion.

Supervisors will allow any number to be put down. Just go through the motions. I have been raising them all over the years (moving one or two categories up a level each year), with supervisor support, and still get s-canned in the rankings.

In emtech this actually matters a lot. Only people with level 3 skills in differentiated technologies will survive upcoming purge. Stupid of course but true.

Don’t believe in the S&D plan. Worst abusers are in the group that came up with this mirage.

Never ever think someone will look out for your career. If you want to advance, you take control of your own destiny.
