Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm surprised attrition isn't much higher

Considering how many hate working here, I'm shocked that attrition is as low as it is. I'd think that being so unhappy at work would push more people to look for something else. The fact that it's not happening is mind-boggling. I still like my job and my biggest issue is layoffs. If it was something more, I'd be out of here already. I know the job market is not that good, but still. It makes very little sense to me.

Have you looked at the tech job market lately or applied??? Have you listened or read the news about tech stock market plunges since sometime last week?

I absolutely hate my manager and 3 of my colleagues but I have a mortgage, bills and cats to take care of.

The blood bath continues and we’ll unfortunately all be affected

market is terrible right now and aside from the severance everyone mentions, none of us who have been here over 10 years are going to find PTO like we get now. 6 weeks is a peach

Beyond the current job market being bad, the overall economy still has distance to fall. It will sh-t the bed in the next 12 months and those of us who can look beyond our next paycheck, recognize that and are willing to put up with sh-t to have the insurance of a severance package when the worst does happen.

It’s a ton of work to find a new job, so people push it off and before they know it, years have gone by in the same crummy job that’s impacting their mental health. When you’re depressed, it’s hard to find the motivation to launch a full job search and perform well at interviews.

There are very few fully remote jobs and many applicants. Many fully remote jobs require you to be within a certain distance of a hub so that narrows it down too. If WF thought people were going to quit because of RTO I am guessing they have changed their mind. I know of no one who quit because they found another fully remote job with acceptable pay but I am sure there are some. If you keep submitting applications, eventually you’ll find something. Also, many hybrid jobs are a little more flexible, not micromanaged and may be an option.

Human nature: some people complain a lot but don't do anything to change their situation.

Others are looking for another oppty - but the job market is slower. There's been a flood of talent from all the tech industry layoffs, and companies in most industries are not aggressively hiring ahead of growth like they were a could of years ago.

Some are hoping/waiting for severance. For some that's a legit strategy considering their circumstances and priorities... for others, it's justification for avoiding taking action to move on...

I gave up because my mental health won out. My family likes the person I’ve become away from WF. That place is beyond toxic

@emc+1tPzxGCr If the severance you’re holding your stank breath for accounts for over 1% of your net worth you did employment wrong. The fact that you’re here also shows the potential layoff is affecting your mental and emotional health whether or not you’re willing to admit it. You place no value in yourself which is why the severance looks so appetizing. Perhaps you’ll find peace once you get your ticket out.

A bunch of overpriced suits thought they could force people to eat cr-p jobs instead of keep working for a "decent-paying" job but are surprised that nobody wants to leave for an underpaying new job.

Chicago School of Business at its finest; let business operate as an oligopoly then throw your hands up in despair when labor and consumers turn against them.

We want severance and unemployment benefits.

For me personally, I just want Wells Fargo to pay. I have plenty of money saved. I want them to pay me because I know they are trying to wait me out.

Adding to what others have said, I know a LOT of employees who've been actively looking for months and can't find anywhere to land. The market is just that terrible right now.

Maybe our failed leaders should have thought of that before they fired my friends for made up BS reasons that they lied about. F them. I'm getting my severance. I don't care if I wind up going a few weeks without pay down the road. I'll be fine. These pieces of garbage in Hudson Yards don't get what they want. I'll take my year+ of paydays whenever they are ready and I'm not leaving without it. Not quitting, not retiring. I'm getting paid. It's spite at this point, and these evil little 'men' in NYC brought it upon themselves.

Most people can’t go too long without income. So they need to have another similarly paying job lined up before they can actually quit. Thats pretty hard to find right now in the financial industry.

Because even an unhappy, unfulfilled job is better than the unemployment line. People are stuck, and it isn't some exclusive phenomenon at Wells Fargo. People need to eat. There may also be an element of habit and familiarity at play. People are more fearful of the unknown, even if they are miserable with the known.

@khm+1tPzxGCr Not if you're close to retirement anyways. Pay me to leave.

Everyone is sticking it out for severance. (Myself included!)

People are irrationally obsessing over the severance. They want to make WF eat the expense The problem is most people exhaust the severance before they find a new job in today’s job market. They would be better suited finding something when they still have a job. Sadly, many employers (erroneously) consider out of work people as second tier resources. Start looking while you still have a steady income.
