Intel Layoff Q3 2024 : Which Sites/Departments Are Affected?

Intel announced a significant layoff, impacting 15% of the workforce (about 15,000 jobs). Does anyone have insights on which specific sites, job types, or departments will be most affected? Wondering if specific locations or teams are at higher risk. Please share any info you have.

Intel has been hiring PhD process engineers literally from any background including theoritical sciences for their Fab at Hillsboro. No wonder this semiconductor 'giant' status has faded away with only $80Bn in market cap. The other big problem this layoffs will create is these process engineers will find hard to get job into competitors as they are aware of the low quality hiring process of Intel.

Wrong, managers are only safe if they meet the 15% layoff target, which means after laying off people they don't like, that won't be enough and they'll have to fire their loyal obedient workers too.

All individual contributors are at risk. All managers are safe. As usual at Intel.

@zsq

That’s that arrogant Intel attitude other posts are highlighting and that the rest of the industry is sick of and staying away from by not hiring us.

Everyone - no one is safe. No one is too important or does something so unquie they can’t be replaced.

Ask them well who did it before you? How did you learn to do it? Self taught? Well can’t someone else (who has cheaper salary) do they same? In fact they can dissect their work to learn faster.

Bottom line no one is not replaceable

I'm prepared for any outcome and actively looking outside opportunities.
I talked to two engineers in different groups and I was so surprised by their reactions - they said they won't be impacted. What they did is unique and no one can replace them.

Well, good luck with that...

Old Adage - Closer to the wafer, the safer you are.
Not so sure that holds these days, though.
