Ok so I’m genuinely curious, how do you all use personal days? I use them as additional time off and every other person I talk to does the same. I was told today by my boss that you cannot use them as vacation days, cannot take them consecutively and shouldn’t really be preplanned? What is everyone’s take on this? Based on how the policy is written I see them as time off I can use as I want, am I wrong?

Per the bank policy, personal days must be scheduled. You can schedule up to 5 deducted from your 80 occasional Illness hours if you are a full time employee. If there is an unplanned absence, you call out and use sick time regardless if you are sick or not. Your manager cannot deny consecutive days off unless there is someone scheduled off. You may schedule just like vacation. Check your department’s vacation/time off guidelines and confirm if it is in writing that you cannot schedule consecutive days off.
sounds like this pos manager from Jax I know
I take 30 days off each year
who cares...I always utilize all of my sick/vacation/personal days
It's up to 5 not 7.
Hmm I thought we still got 2 personal days and then in 2020 during lockdown we were granted an additional 5 from our accrued allotment of 10 sick days to be used as recharge days resulting in up to 7 a year. It’s an arbitrage because taking from your sick time can come back to bite you
I take all 10.
Simply said, They are your days to use as needed. Take one as a Mental health day has been stated by HR, religious or cultural day off not recognized but the bank, just “you are not feeling it” day, etc. IF that is > 1 day or planned months in advance so be it. Respectfully managed is how I would put it but take them ALL + sick days.
Your manager is a bozo. Your response should have been “So you’d rather me call out 5 days in a row versus planning capacity?” Got it…..
Look at employee handbook on flagscape. It says to use as you desire
Call HR and ask.
Yes, you can use 5 ‘personal’ days however you wish. Your manager is wrong. If you don’t want to call HR to double check, then use the chat feature.
Just shows you how d-mb so many bosses are. So instead of pre-planning the day and the team is aware and ready to be down a person, they force them to call out sick and take everyone by surprise.
I use them mostly for days that I have things to take care of - such as moving my kids in/out of their college dorm. Or possibly having work done at the house where it will be difficult for me to be online working, etc.
I use them as I wish. In fact, workday recently told me "You can only use 5 personal days," so I took it as sick time instead. I was sure feeling mentally unwell that day!
