Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs late August

I heard a rumor there will be layoffs targeting 30-40% L3/L4 in late August and 15-20% L2s. Is this across the organization or in a specific area?

Any news on if L3s in St.Louis or Illinois got affected for Feb 2025?

Speaking to two other posters really accurate I think descriptions:

L2s are one of the hardest positions and can have the most impact on what your day to day feels like if you're frontline. I think of them like an Assistant Principal at High School. They are dealing with people conflicts, complaints, operations. L3s are like the Principals, more numbers focused and a little sheltered from the workplace drama but being the one to have to make the "final calls" on things (where they are given latitude which doesn't seem like much). But one thing about L3s I don't think is as assumed is they can be put in a position to be a "super agent" of sorts. Like they are working escalated problems from the front line level maybe even more than an L2. And then L4s seem to finally become more insulated from the daily work of a place and tracking resources and results across multiple L3s. Also maybe the "messenger" for the latest corporate fad. I feel for L2s and L3s though actually because I think they're pretty stressful but can impact people's lives the most by how they handle things and who they are as people.

A few L4's already hitting the exit. They see the handwriting on the wall.

From my 25 years of experience, L3 down focus on the organizations day to day work.

L4 and above have no clue what’s going on below them and focus on budgets for their orgs.

If ATT is finally getting to a mass layoff at the L3 and above titles, then that to me is a signal that they have accelerated the layoff process.

They are near their goals with L1 L2’s and are working their way up.

I’m sure the layoffs will never truly end, but I’m hoping we can get out of this nosedive and start to straighten this thing out.

What will we do with all the conference rooms and useless meetings with power point presentations? How will we survive? I will miss those greatly.

“25% of L3 and L4 will be surplussed by EOY.”
Only 25%?

30-40% of L3, at hub locations, lots of IC is definitely coming. Every name being discussed, lists are being created and ranked. That in 95% sure is happening. When? No clue but my guess is latest will be early September to get everyone off payroll by end of year

“You’re exactly the kind of person the company should have fired ages ago. Take some pride in yourself and learn a useful new skill. If you’re wondering where to start, try a basic English class.”

An astute & accurate observation.

L2 AD position is one of the hardest positions at T. They do all the work for L3 and have to manage all the IC’s. L3 Directors just collect powerpoints.

“What org is that? Do you actually work at T? If you do, do you know what your BU is called?”

I was making a point that the rumor doesn’t mean anything.
And Ward, a--hat.

there is nothing happen here at AT&T except a slow deline across all segments. telecom is dead. they are wanting to cut to the bone but for political reasons they will not. Look at the work and budgets -it's a joke

“L2/L1 letters for wave 3 coming next couple weeks.”

I also heard networking has an indefinite extension.
Lots of rumors, a rumor with no source doesn’t mean much.

They are definitely trying to get rid of most all L3s. Many of ours have been told they would be demoted, even if they agree to move to target location. (CSO)

We've heard -- L3s/L4s got their early Wave 3 letters, must repond now and move by Feb.
L3/L4 layoffs soon.
L2/L1 letters for wave 3 coming next couple weeks.
L2/L1 layoff after that.

Note the layoffs are independent of the RTO cuts. Many in target locations are still being laid off. Some who even relocated were included in layoffs.

Don't trust anything this company tells you.

30-40% L3/L4 layoffs? - come on this is AT&T. It will never happen.

Odds are yes. We have some version of layoffs every month and even layoff Fridays. Just assume there is always more layoff coming with this mgmt team.

it'd always "mid to high single digits" across multiple states and regions in order to escape the WARN act, like that really matters.
