Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

SR to Houston, No severance package.

What's the over/under that many in SR will accept the "job offer" but never move? Will that give them about an extra year or so to skill up and look for another job? Does CVX put any contingencies into these offers to keep this from happening?

For employees, milk the system for all you can, just like the C-suite and their cronies do (see RM, NH, PB, etc,). For Chevron, be sure to write the reloc package such that if the employee quits before moving to the job, they have to pay back whatever they received.

Thats where the layoff comes in. Hence the site's name.

So if most of SR moves to Houston, who are going to survive? Houston can't have all SR and Houston.

Yes they fire you. After they pay 7% of your 1.5 mil home. And other relocation bennies. Plus you can milk it for a few months with vacation and looking for a new home. Katy homes are competitive!

Uhh, fire you? It would be a bit obvious, to begin with. If you're so tough and great why can't you find another job, No one will hire you? Can't imagine why not, lol.

The company does not pay off your house. You may want to read the domestic relocation policy again.

I am happy that they will pay off my house (make me money) and move me and my wife right before my retirement :) I was worried about how to make the move to a low tax state, my intention was NC but TX will do.

Work the system. It’s a corporation, not family. Anything goes.

I would say a small % of folks would want to move to Houston. Those that would have would have taken the opportunity to do so when they announced the Lakeside move. They are already in Houston and competing in the next round of whatever comes. Those that stayed behind are unlikely to want to move from CA and understand the risks, and are likely in a different place in life where they don't care about the difference in money or taxes - likely have owned real estate for a long time and have more years with the company. Chevron knows this and will likely offer a higher % of severance packages than job relocations. Plenty of available talent in Houston.

I think what OP is really asking is if employees will try to fraud the company by just accepting but never intended to move. Would be pretty cr-ppy for them to do that. Companies move, relocate all the time. SR peeps have a lot to think about over the next year.

Why should they get severance if they are not being laid off? Jobs relocate, part of life.
