Lack of Career

What happen to giving existing employee who toiled away for years career opportunities?

I noticed company hiring more people with less than 3 years of work history with no skills in the job. Didn’t even start them on the basics. Wow, what a slap in the face for current employees who were not given these opportunities. Sure, the new hires have the right pedigree from the right universities, but they haven’t done anything to earn the shiny new position. Qualification to top jobs is who you know and optics.

@2zsc You can legally record conversations with your supervisor in Texas:

Go gather some actual evidence supporting your sweeping accusations and file a lawsuit if you really feel you’ve been wronged. I personally don’t believe most of the age discrimination claims made on here.

I thought it was pretty obvious they aren't going to do that since they replace a lot with either thrid party or contractors

Remember talk is cheap. Unless it is in writing no evidence proof. I have overheard supervisors saying this to older workers. They will never leave any paper trail because of lawsuits. One supervisor told an employee exxon could hire three Indians for the price of them. Again all of this was or-l. Some went to HR and with the verbal evidence the cases were closed. I even provided a statement but was told that two people were not enough evidence to act upon an employee. Others that heard the comments did not want to say anything against the supervisor. It is true. If you don't believe me age over 55 then 60 and see. Take a look at your ranking a let us know if it is true. Remember at 55 small bullseye on your back, every year after the bullseye grows. Please don't say we are making it up.

@aqu If someone “flat out” told you that you were ranked lower because of your age, then the person who made that decision would have committed a federal crime.

Somehow, I never see or hear of any (successful) age discrimination lawsuits, and I never see or hear about anyone making a formal complaint to the EEOC/DoL. It’s almost like you old guys are creating this out of whole cloth.

The focus is on the younger (and cheaper) employees. I was flat out told my age, experience, and proximity to the top of my current salary band kept me down in the ranking this year. The sc--ws will continue to be turned till only low cost folks are left

It is the new way here. The worst are the people they put in charge of the experienced workers. The worst supervisors that are willing to do what ever exxon wants. The only thing they are good at is kissing a and piping employees without a thought. One supervisor looks like they were in prison with tats and skin head. Just one example of the fine leaders at exxon.

It is time to run. Treat them as they treat you. If you need the money from the two week notice; wait for it, if not, just quit without telling anybody.

Been happening to me for years. Friends , friends of friends. Or just plain don’t like you. No one liked me cause I held myself accountable and wanted others accountable. These people don’t want to be held accountable. Get your experience and run.
