Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Good luck to all

For those leaving, good luck in retirement or finding your next adventure. For those staying, good luck as well since unfortunately you will be dealing with the aftermath. Verizon was never Verizon Wireless, and Verizon Wireless was NEVER Verizon. Lots of us would have left if we could after Verizon consumed Verizon Wireless. Some did....and went on to do great things in other industries. Others like me stayed because we had hopes and aspirations of good things to come, in some cases this may be true. Obviously we all had health insurance and a paycheck. That helps. However the corporate world in VZ in some cases is not nice. The twice a year rif's, and the constant fear of losing your position was always hanging over your head. The match is great for your 401k...bonus's have been decent, but now with the new method of rating you, may not be so good for you now. Keep this in mind for those staying. Use the money they give towards another degree, put as much money away as you can NOW....not later. There are also ZERO retirement benefits for you when you retire...you get %25 off of your phone bill, not %50. There is no health insurance benefit...there was...but that too is now gone. Take what you can now...before its all gone. For me and a few others I will miss my co-workers and a steady paycheck for a little bit...not the job. Think about your future...life is short. Is Verizon where you find yourself retiring? I doubt it. If you have not figured it out, Verizon is having some financial issues...The VSP is the way out to get people to jump ship, otherwise they have to notify WARN. Then the media will grab a hold of this and Verizon's stock will tumble some more. There will be riff's folks, this VSP is not the end....do your homework and look at the financials of this place. Look at the headcount of the competitors that are kicking are a-s..Especially T-Mobile, look at the total head count of us compared to them...that should make your head spin. Again good luck in all your endeavors.

I really can’t imagine WARN had anything to do with it. The info will get out there just like the last one if only on the news feed from verizon.com itself where they announced 10.4k have been accepted.

“no health insurance benefit”. VZ HR seems proud that they offer retiree health care and that it is in a seperate bucket. There is unfortunately for most no health care subsidy but at the cost they charge it might as well be no benefit. Just want to give them appropriate credit for having a benefit that is also not a benefit at all for us peons.
