I think by Sales, they are referring to business sales, not stores. Some of that could be contracted out too no doubt, but we are also talking about federal accounts and some huge corporate accounts. Doubtful they'd ever offshore/outsource all of that. You are correct that we do not need corporate stores.
"Verizon is headed to the model where sales and product creators are the direct employees, everyone else is contracted out."
Exactly what makes you think "Sales" can't be contracted out?
How many Verizon Wireless stores are actually owned & staffed by Verizon employees?
As opposed to Verizon, in name only... I think we have 2 VZ owned stores within 30miles of me, but probably 5-10 private VZ storefronts within 10 miles.
Most are just private owned franchises. Found this out back in the day, when trying to take a fubar company cell-phone in for a replacement. All the local stores wanted nothing to do with it... I tried a couple & they all told me to take it to the Company store 30 miles away. Granted, that was 10yrs ago, but I kind of doubt they've “added” more Company owned stores since then, but who knows.
Indian contractors hired by VZ Indian execs for kickbacks from Indian government and Indian contracting companies. You get what you pay for!!
The facts shared by Verizon in their quarter financial statements are number of Full Time Equivalent (FTEs) [See the footnotes] - so the number are inflated with overtime hours. Therefore, Verizon true number of Employees are around 10% lower (assuming an average work week of 44 hours)
The better stat is onshore vs offshore employee #'s....then and now.
When GTE/Bell Atlantic merged and Verizon came onboard there were 272,000 employees in 2000
Nmcs are next
Verizon does not have a plan to grow revenue. The only thing that can be done is to save money to maintain profitability. It’s clear Verizon is dying a slow death. Working at Verizon will continue to feel uncomfortable, getting asked to do more with less, and wondering if you are next to go.
Contractors ! Cheaper and work still gets done
remember it's not necessarily less people doing work for Verizon...the offshore and onshore contractors make up a ton of the labor now. Everytime we see posts like this it gives the impression Verizon has found a way to get more work done with less labor. Verizon is headed to the model where sales and product creators are the direct employees, everyone else is contracted out.
