Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone ever taken a demotion? For example going from a P4 to a P3 etc.

I am currently a P4 but not feeling good about the position I am in. There is a P3 role req open that I am interested in. Would my current salary decrease if I switched roles? Or would it stay the same similar to a lateral move. I'm not looking for more money but I also don't want to take a pay cut.

I went from a Lead (P4) position to a Senior (P3) position and my pay stayed the same. This was with a different line of business but I had a lot of skill to bring. It was never brought up by HR or the hiring department. Nothing at all changed in regard to my salary or bonus. (Bonus was cr-ppy as usual)

Not true. I asked HR about this last week when screened for a P3 job (I’m currently P4).

Your pay will likely be dropped down to the max within the range of the new/lower position which leaves you with no room for any pay raises.

HR will not let you move down as a company policy. I’ve known many that have wanted to and are rejected. You have to separate service & reapply.

Bonus is a function of base salary performance rating at eoy and last year bonus.

If you are at 90-95% for the p4 level should be easier to keep it where it is even at p3 role. Recruiter would be intrigued on why you are interested in a p3 role.

You are assuming you will even be offered the step down......and I don't mean because you wouldn't be qualified to get it. I mean that they likely won't even make the offer because your pay is too high for what they can pay and/or what others in their group in the same title make. Might as well give it a try, but don't hold your breath. I know people who weren't offered roles and were told by recruiting it was because they were too highly paid for the position they were applying for......also have heard of 2 scenarios where the offer wasn't allowed to be made (and I'm not kidding) because at the salary the person was currently in (even though it was a lateral movement into the new role) because they made more than the manager of the group and that was not allowed.

some times you have to take one step back to move two forward. Also, while in the past bonus would be different, given how bonuses more wisely tie to your previous year bonus, it may not be that much of a hit.
