Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Union call centers

Everyone seems to act like union call centers won't be surplused. I'm hearing the exact opposite thing. Our headcount has dwindled to nearly nothing and all of our top management has cancelled visits to our center. Does anyone here have any information regarding union call centers and what we can expect? Because the rumors of surplus are extremely loud currently.

Do call center workers actually do anything? Besides telling you to power off your device?***that's an insult to true ATT call center workers. We're having to deal with more outages this year than ever probably due to people getting laid off. More towers outages everywhere this year. We have to clean up the mess the stores create by lying.
I think the union jobs are going to be surplussed We are back to back: , we now hold the customer hostage on the phone trying to fix their activations issues or whatever issues that our systems are causing it. The push to use AE when it freezes up, it's not for business accounts, so again, 5 mins just to VID a customer and their mad!!!! So, in the end, we are not going to make Tejas new guidelines/ metrics, because the 7 day repeat is gone to he-l, so why would ATT pay these union wages when the workers can't meet the goals? A lower wage employee can't either.
Alot of contracts say, only employee 250 union employees under that contract and it may several call centers. Do the math.

Start off-shoring leadership for maximum labor cost reductions then they can work their way down the ranks, as needed.

Send it overseas and get 3 foreign employees for the cost of 1 in the US. Until the government says companies can't deduct expenses to foreign employees from taxable income for tax purposes, then this off shoring will continue

Those folks are over paid by call center standards. Save your shekels as it can't last.

West call centers will be mostly empty in the next 5 to 10 years solely based on natural attrition. 90% of reps are 23+ seniority. At&t plans long term, and these call remaining call centers in California (3) and Nevada (1) will be gone in the next decade.

All depends on the union.

In NJ union people left and their work went to Slovakia.

Management could care less about the type of work and what happened to it.

West and Midwest job offer guarantees are very strong, making it a very expensive process. I remember a surplus of 21 or so folks in a Midwest call center, where after 18 months of everyone who wanted to stay (18 or so) still being gainfully employed, they just threw in the towel and cancelled it.

Might depend on what region you are in. MW and W have some pretty expensive severance packages. Don’t keep up with numbers but heard that most of the surpluses have been in the SE and SW. Guess it also might depend on the age of your work force and normal attrition rates. Drove by a new subdivision that was getting fiber spliced in. 3 of the 4 techs I saw looked like Santa without the red suit.

My understanding is that the company is under the watermark of 2,000 under the Legacy T contract.
