Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Phase 3 - Take Note

Management swore Phase 2 last day would be in December. Veazey even confirmed the December date in her town hall. Suddenly, it is moved to August.
So, those who were honest about declining the move will come out worst than those who lied about intending to move since they will get through at least January before the termination process starts.
Phase 3 people should carefully consider their timeline when it is time to submit their decision.

“Is there a Wave 4 ?”

There is a virtual wave coming. All virtual will lose their tw status or will be surplused. No one knows if it’s before or after wave 3. Most that I’ve heard is that it is before wave 3. I think Atlanta is wave 4, unofficially. This would complete the process.

"Just a COBC violation."

So? They threaten with COBC violations for everything. It doesn't matter if you are leaving. You already don't get a bonus. You don't get severance. IT DOESN'T MATTER.

And if you think the company actually cares about COBC, read this - https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2022-215

and then search webphone for the names of the 6 employees. When I checked in mid 2023, all were still employed by AT&T. As of a couple of months ago, 4 were still employed.

COBC Violation my a-s.

Leadership knows many have lied about moving. It is best to just go ahead and rip the bandaid off.

If the company only gives you ‘officially’ a 2 week notice- that tells you ALL you need to know.
Let that sink in.

That was always going to be the case. Cowardice does not pay. You have to be willing to play just as dirty as the company.

And be prepared to wait 45 days to receive your severance.

6 months severance is only about 25% of annual pay because of the tax treatment. So, be careful how you plan to spend that severance.

“I understand why people lied about moving to the hub. Nothing wrong “
Just a COBC violation.

I understand why people lied about moving to the hub. Nothing wrong with that. Toxic T lied for many years. There is no morale here. Everybody is trying to milk this cow, from the top of the ladder to the bottom.

“I will be leaving with 6 month of severance. Those who lied will leave with nothing. They will be working till December in this toxic environment while I will enjoy my freedom.”

Yeah, but you were here how many years?
Obviously if you have 6 months of severance you just decline.

Those of us with like 1 month will benefit from just lying, get next years bonus, and then quit

I declined and got my letter. I will be receiving my surplus with 20+ years of service and I will have a new job 1 week after I'm off payroll.

"those who were honest about declining the move will come out worst than those who lied about intending to move"

I was honest with myself first. I was honest with Att second. I'm extremely happy with my career choice. I think people should be careful with choices that relate to them first and not the company. I used my time wisely from our first warning in May 2023 to train up and earn technology certificates and networked with my friends, expanding my circle 10-fold. I'm now on the verge of receiving an offer just days after I'm let go, the most perfect of scenarios.

So, yes, if you are not serious about your planning, then being dishonest with yourself and the company is perhaps your only hope. But, not mine and not yours if you do it right. So, you are gravely incorrect about your assessment. Your advice is poisonous to those in wave 3 that are going to struggle with their decisions. May all that read this thread - caveat emptor

good luck all, God bless.

Those working through end of year will get a full bonus, benefits and an opportunity to find other employment. Finding employment is harder due to high inflation so, the extra time is welcomed.

You will be on the books until the end of the year since you will be paid 6 months of severance if a longterm employee. Everyone has also had over a year to prepare.
