Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Barnhart center

I recently spoke with some of the cleaning crew at the Barnhart center and they told me that they were informed by their boss that Barnhart will be closed in November and would be the end of the current contract with that building.

The site will close, and everyone there will be laid off in October. Those who are in collections will be laid off sometime in December. You're welcome

Wells Fargo is trying to make you quit. Your procedures are only going to get worse and you'll hate your job more than you already do. If you don't quit, they'll find some reason to fire you. Wells Fargo doesn't want to pay you your severance. If you unionize, they'll close the site and pay your severance.

I’m at Barnhart and had not heard that the center is due to close ‘end of 2024/early 2025.’ It was my impression that the lease will be up by the END of ‘25. Does anyone know for sure? I am more than ok with it being November ‘24 just hadn’t heard that.

Wonder how long before November the last non-maintenance non-security people will be here. I assume they will have to actually clear out all the cubicles and break everything down before leaving and that some maintenance and security will be there for that.
They also already seem to be limiting security by not letting us use the southern exit.
Hm, eventually they’ll probably move us all to the ground floor and close the second floor and cafeteria. That or just lay off the second floor first.

Correct, my long post below was directed at Oregon employees since this is a thread about Oregon. We can collect both severance and unemployment.

Charlie’s been attempting to gut the west coast since he arrived, it has nothing to do with unions and more that he wants to more closely align with India hours

"Wait... how are you getting severance PLUS unemployment? This is called pay continuation for a reason and one of the first questions the state asks when filing for unemployment benefits? Just curious 🤔"

Some states allow you to collect unemployment even if you're collecting severance. But don't confuse severance with salary continuation.

Who was William Barnhart? Why was the center named after him?
Did you know the thelayoff.com posts are now being fed into google?
Google "wells fargo barnhart". Do you think the reason they are closing the Barnhart site is because of its union attempt?

It won’t be that days for all folks. Some earlier. I hear the group downstairs by the door and elevators is 7/23. I think they are credit card fraud. I think Nov is latest date.

I can confirm that we are good at Barnhart until November.

The lease is up November of 2025, but I suspect we’ll be out before then.

Highly recommend saving money to prepare to take a job that's 1-2 levels below where you're at now. Those jobs are more common and easier to get (less competition). Mid-level folks who have been laid off who are holding out for the perfect jobs (e.g. remote, same pay level or higher) are generally not landing jobs right now. The market here is very crowded for positions that are a 1:1 match for what you were doing at the Barnhart - hundreds of laid-off folks are going for those jobs like sharks. High competition.

My goal has been to get my foot in the door somewhere and work my way back up, and I'm closing on a job now after being laid off for a couple of months. I'll be taking a paycut, but by the time others are landing their first post-layoff job, I'll be six months into a new career. It's just a different strategy.

Everyone has a different situation, of course. So just passing along my experience. I only had a few months of severance. Others have a year of severance. The severance period has been an amazing break, but bear in mind that it's not the same thing as a vacation or retirement, as there is a looming pressure to find the next career. If you are able to enjoy 2-3 months of freedom and then get a decent job, you'll be stacking severance on top of your new paycheck, which will really help if your next role pays a bit less.

Last bit of advice... try not to panic about saving money before your layoff (again, everyone has a different situation). I'm pulling in severance PLUS unemployment, so I've never made more money than what I'm making now. The income is stacking up quickly in my account. It's easy to get into a scarcity mindset, but try to think past your fear and focus on what the real situation will be. Saving is never a bad thing, of course, but most folks don't need to save as if they'll never work again.

Take advantage of the free career-transition service offered - get them to review your resume and help with cover letter advice (many employers do expect one, unfortunately).

This might end up being the most amazing thing to ever happen to you. Reevaluate what you want and what you need from a job. Most of us were too exhausted and stressed to even think about finding something different. Being with Wells started to feel like being with a rich, ab*sive partner - the deal was too good to leave, but now we're being set free. It's an opportunity.

CPG does know, and yet they still show people working at SP. Look it up on TM search.

That time frame sounds right…..Barnhart slated to close end of 2024/early 2025 —CPG has known this when closing Sunset park.
End of an era……

Word sneaks out sometimes. I remember a building management company employee letting the cat out of the bag at one site before WF told their people. It happens. Plan accordingly. Save save save every single pay check. Cut costs, start networking and watching the job market closely. Make HY pay severance if at all possible, but prepare for your future.
