Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Finally seeing how the game is played

Every decision made at the top of the house is to slowly but deliberately tighten the sc--ws, to set traps, to allow managers to build a case against employees.

Need 4 people to execute a job well? Here, do it with 2, even if that means working several hours on the weekend.

Pass a sprawling office location on your way to work each morning? Sorry, we need you to drive the extra 40 minutes to be at your “assigned” location.

Have a mobile phone? We’re going to make the definition of business communication so vague that you’re scared to even touch your phone. And if you do touch your phone at your desk, we can nail you for that as well.

Lock your desk drawer and lock up your laptop with a cable using the key and lock that we’re never issued. We wouldn’t want coworkers stealing your device, even though we have security cameras scanning every floor of the office.

Don’t hold the door for coworkers, even those you have known for years, even if that coworker has their hands full.

Have training courses due in 4 weeks? Have them done even earlier just because I said so, no exceptions.

The list goes on. I’ve been here 22 years, and I have never seen it this bad. Work life becomes more miserable by the day and each new memo ushers in a fresh chance for a “gotcha” scenario.

People working remote are being called back regardless of their disability. Everyone will work from the office even if your sick or have a medical reason. HR has said get over it people.

I used to enjoy sharing a little face time with my manager, grab a beer with the team, lightly socialize and get to know people for the humans they are.

Today? Um, crickets and tumbleweeds. Everyone is fearful of their situation or unmotivated to put effort into anything. If someone tries to be funny or lighthearted in communication, it comes across empty and hollow.

We are not having fun at work and we are not in this together. This is the bank's era of blahness. It is not memorable.

I have to go back to work now.

@upq+1tdzsbg2 I completely agree about them waiting out remote and non-hub employees. It feels like CS must be offering leaders a personal bounty for every severance package avoided.

They are hoping to manage remote employees out or wait for them to find new employment.

This really isn't a manager thing, or even a director thing. Such people have no power anymore, it's all been centralized in the hands of the OC. And yes, they are tightening the sc--ws because they want the domestic workforce to quit to make downsizing cheaper.

At a recent AMA, a CSBB divisional leader was asked for the latest location strategy timing information. He could not have been more disdainful or dismissive in his non-response. He said he didn't know the timing of location waves and wasn't paying attention to them so he didn't have anything to share. Despite the fact that this is top of mind for a significant percentage of his division who understandably want to know when they will be affected. He is a JPM import building his empire in Columbus, OH with outside hires. The level of disrespect toward long-term, productive employees keeps ratcheting up. This has become an awful place.

Time to find some private companies not ruled by the stock market

The entire company is being run like a pyramid scheme. BS is rewarded. Candor and ethics is shunned. I’ve never seen a more toxic and unfriendly environment for those who work vs. the cruelty of those who manage. I wish it was just confined to Wells Fargo, but the dysfunction seems to be industry wide regardless the company. The corporate oligarchy is already here in America. We’re all just meat in a grinder here to feed a beast and make the people at the top richer at the cost of our self esteem and standard of living. Dark days indeed.
