I left my old team as, among other things, due to harrass-----nt, doing other people's work for them & then getting thrown under the bus, finding a utilization report online where my utilization was inaccurately recorded as the manager in CCAR has her favorites & if you don't su-k up, she'll scre--w you over, no matter how good you are & how hard you work. I had an interview & the hiring manager was really enthusiastic. They kept adding more tasks to do, extending the interviewing process over 6 months. Eventually, after some communication, they told me that the former manager provided a negative "soft" review. He said he didn't understand it as my resume was great & I interviewed really well. Would you report your old manager to HR or the ethics line for this? It seems like she is trying to prevent me from working after I resigned from her team.

The sad part is, when people check references at WF, they assume the manager is honest & decent, like at most other companies.
The manager who asked was wrong and the manager providing the soft feedback was also wrong.
@gcy+1tfT0M2q It's technically against policy. Considering that most "managers" were hired by friends (and aren't seasoned), it really isn't a good idea & won't garner an accurate assessment anyway.
Confused on this. Left WF in 2022 (but still come here because these threads provide wonderful dopamine surges). At the time and in my world, it was common and encouraged to ask managers for feedback on potential internal hires. Is that no longer the case? Or was it never the case?
They usually contact the last manager of record to get an informal ref.
WF does not allow references from managers whether an internal position of external position. Sounds like the new manager wasn't aware as well. IF you report it, the new manager may get in trouble as well. He/she shouldn't have asked for one.
Yes, immediately report this to HR. Mgr will be reprimanded. Mgrs are not supposed to provide feedback either way.
Absolutely report them, they're not supposed to offer an opinion. This is the exact reason WF doesn't allow managers to provide commentary on previous employees, it could blow back huge for them. I've seen this happen to a manager, and it is not taken lightly. They will get on the HR naughty list for it.
No surprise that a poorly run firm has these issues. Charlie should be ousted at the next town hall and fired
Report them? I’d do EVERYTHING possible to end their career.
