Question for managers who have location strategy experience

I work in a non-hub location. I have heard that our location will be hit by wave 2 location strategy in July. My manager hasn’t heard anything about me and I believe him/her. My question is this. With location strategy (not the every other Tuesday efficiency layoffs), are managers given info ahead of time or the day before. Of course, I’m trying to figure out if I will dodge the hit in July. Thanks.

It depends on the level of you manager. If they are literally someone with the title of manager they probably don’t know. Sr. Manager or Director they may know. Exec or head of the dept, they know. It also depends on how transparent their overall management chain is.

It does, but it won't affect very many people at all. The vast majority are not being offered relo, because the entire purpose of the plan is to downsize domestic workers. Relo offers are very calculated, they are only given to a small minority, and even then our overlords know most people won't move in this market. PR is the primary purpose of offering at all, and they know home prices and interest rates (and HY garbage leadership) will result in most people not agreeing to move anyway.

Yeah if you’re not near a hub, you should probably be looking, seriously!😒

Wait, so if you're offered relo, then you have working 60 day notice instead of non-working?

If so, that really su-ks

@chc. If you say you’ll relocate you have one year. If you don’t relocate after year you are termed. You forfeit your right to severance once you say you’ll relocate.

What hub are you going to that "doesn't have enough room"? I've been to several, lots of ghost towns. The fact of the matter is that there's under 20k remote people and they are scattered across the country. A very large majority of these individuals will simply be downsized and will not be allowed to go to a hub even if they self move.

Finding office space for the remaining few thousand won't be hard. Remember, they are downsizing people IN hubs also. There's going to be more than enough space at every hub. Just a matter of time.

As usual the "reasons" are lies and PR spin. The reality is that HY is exterminating the domestic workforce. They want us all gone. The only question is whether or not Shart will get his golden parachute before the last of us are shown the door.

@ifl+1tgw6Ykz You can say you’ll relocate and drag your heels though, right?

There are too many variables to know exactly how any individual situation will play out. In general, though, there will be a very small handful of people offered reloc. A few more possibly approved to relocate on their own. The reason why it is small is there's not enough space in any given hub for everyone currently remote outside of hubs. There's probably not even enough space for those still remote in hub cities but they are probably safe except for efficiency layoffs. Everyone outside of a hub who is remote will be facing the end this year or at the latest sometime next year. Even if the job is still required mgmt would rather repost in India then go through the expense of moving someone to or making space for them in a US hub. Is this mean and uncaring? Yes, it is. But, hey, it's just business, babe. No hard feelings. Now get the @#$% out.

Odds are their manager knows. But, Haven’t told them yet. They will go through a mandatory training before you get your letter. First step, you get a letter. It outlines options. I can’t recall how many days you have to respond. It’s basically commute to nearest office at your expense 3 days a week, relocate to a hub (depends on if you qualify for relocation), or get the severance. But you have to sign by a certain date. You Can’t say you will relocate and then change your mind. You work through your 60 day notification period (in our area at least), and then you depart on day 61.
