Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why are so many of you scared for your jobs?

Are you good at what you're doing? If the answer is 'yes,' then you have nothing to worry about. Every layoff I've lived through at Intel resulted in low-performers being shown the door - which is exactly as it should be. I can't believe that my group is unique in this. I personally like to keep informed on potential layoffs, but I'd be lying if I said I was worried.

I'd a fat as fu-k boss, who's Facebook profile photo, was her with kitten ears and a kitten nose emoji super imposed. Anyway, I was a rock star employee in my local region for Ge Capital. I have the technical formulas, shortcuts and Microsoft Office skills required for the job and this bi--h managed to get me to accept a severance package after a few months, all because she was jealous of my talent and saw me as a threat to her job. Her boss loved me and hated her.

To say not worried is a lie. I'm trying to enhance skill sets in case something happens.
Quite a few engineers believe they won't be touched CPM'ed ...that's really surprise to me..keep on browsing the web, watch YouTube Netflix during working hours. Good luck!

I suppose most of the users on layoff not working for Intel or are low-performers with huge ego.

layoffs are made on criteria - pay to contribution ratio.
If you have big pay, but your contribution is not in pair - you will get out (and this is hurtful because good engineers can be laid off)
If you are low performer - you will get out

the problems with layoffs in intel is that they opening voluntary where good engineers taking them, and bunch of low-performances stays because there will be not enough people to support projects.

All people who took voluntary and I know them personally found work in less than a week with similar/better pay. I am thinking about doing the same this cycle, I already have 3 offers on the table from other companies, however I really like working in intel and after 2 decades it is hard for me to make changes and learn new corporate processes all over again. Grass is always greener on the other side and I do not like changes.

My dream is to cut all low-performance (it will be around 20% of company...)

Newsflash - if you're still at Intel you probably aren't as good at your job as you think you are

Low performers should be getting ushered out through performance management, not layoffs. I survived several layoffs and witnessed many people who were strong assets to their teams and company get shown the door - almost always to go on and thrive somewhere else. Direct managers sometimes have little or no input. The best way to deal with a situation like this is to soften the impact of a worst-case scenario. Do what you can to build up your resume and get it out, and maybe tighten up the finances for awhile in case you have a pause in income. It is a huge stress reliever to know you have other options you can easily move to if things don't work out well. Some things are out of your control but some things are not.

I have been through multiple large layoffs and low performers aren't always the ones who get let go. For example in 2015 people were let go based on their awarded stock levels. In my group managers let you specify your preferred method of receiving increased compensation ie base pay, bonus multiplier, or stock. A lot of people didn't want the stock. This resulted with good performers being walked out the door based on HRs criteria and there was nothing management could do. Second, Intel is at least 40K over employed. This could result in entire groups being let go if they right size the company all in one move. Plus being a survivor of a large consolidation is still not a great position to be in.
