Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoffs are easy

In our business, cutting cost is the easiest way for any manager to improve the bottom line and look like a star. Increasing production takes years if not decades. Arresting decline is very tough. Layoffs can cut costs 15% in a few months. Any long term downside to cutting won’t be felt in the top line for many years.

@2fct, Well when you have your own company and you are running it you can feel free to run it your way and keep all sorts of useless personnel out of the goodness of your own heart even though they are causing the company to lose money. Then at the point where you go completely bankrupt you will also be in the position to lay off the entire company who will then be all on the street with no jobs and have only you to thank for it. Now maybe you should have managed the business more effectively and stayed solvent so that at least some hard-working people could keep their jobs and feed their families. But no, you chose to put everyone on the street who end up starving with no income because of your lack of business sense. But it's sure nice that you have a soul.

If money is all you care about in life I really feel sorry for you. People matter more than the company making an extra penny on the dividend. Have some kind of loyalty to your employees working hard to make the company money. The do have no soul. I don't get those who aren't in management and also never will be who support them over their fellow workers. The book li---r crowd. Why do you care so much about them? Most of the people that act like that are the strong Christians. WWJD?

Move most of the jobs which don’t require to be in office to India. Look at what Exxon is doing

Yes it is easy, but cost cutting does not equate to growth and long term profit. What it does is increase efficiency which all other competitors are already doing so that will only work in the short term. Pulling same rabbit out of the hat will eventually destroy the company.

Other countries/companies you speak of have to pay less because they can't cull out the underperformers. You have a "soul"??? Wow, that's rich. More like you don't make the big bucks like business people with a spine and you never will. Go ahead and take that homeless person into your home, mr. "soul". lol.

Maybe they shouldn't be easy and they be regulated like other countries. Management are sc-m to destroy people's livelihood to bump up the dividend an extra penny. I have a soul so just couldn't do it.

They are also NECESSARY if at any point you end up with a lot of employees sitting around doing nothing like we have now. Your point?
