Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is that sound?

It sort of sounds like the sound of no union employees getting surplused.

“ what does the union do anyway? besides packing the call centers”

It collects union dues, and negotiates reduced benefits, pay and job security.

I can’t believe the level of immaturity on these post. Makes me sick knowing that this is what is working for this company now. No wonder it’s going down fast. I can hardly wait for legacy T to get on the surplus list so I can get out with mucho $$. You can all sink with your dirty ship.

I’m so tired of seeing this cr-p. I am in management now, but I started as a tech in the union. I respect what union workers do because I have done it and many management people have. It is the upper level management that treats us all like cr-p. Stop with the stupid name calling!

I agree with you and had a similar journey at T, however, I feel like I see many more posts like this going the other direction, meaning Union pips gloating about how good they have it, and how all the "useless managers deserve to be laid off". I don't know why there is so much hate, but I know it's about 80/20, with most of these posts coming from the union guys hating on the management for no apparent reason.

Tell that to the lady's that work in my office. They were all given the Texas or layoff option.

To "What does the union do anyway but pack call enters?"
How about a severed trunk line with 1600 twisted 4 wires per connection? I saw one and was elated there was no contingency in process. I could never connect a single 2 pair-4 wire connection.
Or dig a trench for a new line without damaging a pristine lawn.
The very question shows your lack of awareness of the complexity of these jobs.
And marketing wants to track the best sticky promotion, so, I at contingency planning I was told there are 248 different DSL offers all with different conditions (1-3 month free, free equipment, guarantee price lock, when available faster speed) I was not qualified for any craft position. Thank goodness for free coffee, long breaks, cafeteria lunches, and flexible start/stop time.

It appears that the union has compromised the pension and health benefits of union techs by selling them out.

“ eff all of you.”

Your command of the English language is exactly what we see from union slugs.

Seems like attrition and fiber is the layoff mechanism being used. In my area the only outside techs being hired are Prem techs. A regular COR tech leaves and typically the replacement is a Prem tech. Lot of the crews are now composed of mostly Prem guys. And in some areas that have mostly converted to fiber the Core techs are picking up Prem work to keep busy. And some of that work is disappearing. Once fiber is installed it’s typically one and done. And in the newer locations a lot of the turn ups don’t require a dispatch at all because fiber was installed initially.

A recently Surplused management employee here .. I supported the Represented Teams for over 15 years. For the most part, I fully supported their contract rights and responsibilities. Without the Contracts. all of their work would have been outsourced decades ago, to support the Corporate Greed Principles. CEOs and C-Suite members make BILLIONS in Mistakes ( buy high, sell for pennies on the dollars ) and their only recourse is to no innovate and cut the resources that build and support the network.

Do the union slugs still file grievances? You should file one on this site for hurting your feelings. Also, file one for all the contractors that are stealing your fiber work. No one digs a hole like a union slug

Without craft, no lines installed or repaired, no one to resolve issues at call centers, unhappy customers leave, now new customers and deserting current base.

So far, T has survived with rotten management, but without customers, T does not survive.

Respect your teammates.
