Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Don't Press the VSP Button

Don't press the button unless you are about to retire anyway. VZ is an easy place to be with a steady paycheck. It's not as bad as you think.

Button pusher. There is life after big red, a much better life. Glad I did it and haven't looked back.

July 22 will announce Q2 result
If we have bad Q2 or weak forecast for Q3,
I guess anyone who click the button will be accepted and out of door by Sept

I have been here 18 years.

2018 is vastly different than the current situation.

if you are an onshore developer, vz literally said they want 100% of them either replaced by Ai or offshore/contractors. there is no place here for you.

rumors are that they will follow up with a smaller rif package the following month after vsp is concluded. if they lay all vsp volunteers in Sept, they can follow it in October with the smaller payout.

it's going to require ex director level approval to keep anyone past Sept. and rumor is, they don't want anyone held past Sept.

I have been offered the package several times. I am of the age and have the resources to retire, I like my job and want to work. I'm glad I didn't take the package before and I won't take it now. It is not an easy decision for most people. If you have been here for any length of time getting a new job at this salary is nearly impossible. If Verizon can replace you cheaper, so can every other company. As you age, things that bothered you about a job don't matter quite as much. Good luck whatever you decide.

I almost pressed in 2018 but didn’t. Glad I decided to stay. Hasn’t been roses, but grateful.

Much more competitive job market this time around and higher inflation. I suspect they will get a lower % of gamers this time around. Probably still enough to meet their target, but lower denials.

I pressed the button in 2018 back and forth alot but ended up staying because it wasn’t bad.
This isn’t 2018 VZ anymore and in 2025 it’ll be a whole new experience for anyone who stays.
For me and my group I don’t think that will be a good place to be.
I was going to quit this year anyways because that is where I am with VZ, my director group, and the HRBP who decided to move me there so taking the VSP was easy.

Depends what group your in...if your in IT, leave...someone from a far distant place will be doing your job for half the price.

VZ does care to keep its tenured folks....they want them off their payroll, to expensive.

Yeah, you can coast and get a paycheck....is that what your life's about coasting....

Life is short, and other opportunities are out there...you have to go looking for them sometimes...sometimes they fall in your lap, and sometimes they do not.
