Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

July 9th

Multiple threads have mentioned July 9th. Is this the layoff date for wave 2 folks who did not accept moves to hub? Is it wave 3 date moved up? Or is it additional non RTO related layoff? Anyone really having first hand info please provide details.

It is not “if”, it is “when” you are tapped on the shoulder when you least expect it to hear, your job has been eliminated.

It's a bunch of different things. There are layoffs slotted for every month of the year and there is a calendar of all the associated activities. A lot of tomorrow is RTO related but not all.

But I think the OP is asking if there are wave 3 people already in this batch or is it still mainly wave 2 people just hitting their off payroll date for declining the "you have to be in a hub" (combined with the normal monthly AT&T purges).

“The majority of employees leaving tomorrow quit”

I didn’t quit. I did decline to move. If I had quit, I wouldn’t get the severance. Get your explanation correct. 😉

Why do we still have humans selling anything that does not require significant network engineering involvement? Everything we sell can be bought off a website if we bothered to create usable ones. I can't believe we have been laying off developers, engineers, and technicians when we still pay people commissions to click on "add insurance" for customers. Our marketing budget needs to be cut by 80%. Everyone knows what we sell.

The majority of employees leaving tomorrow quit rather than opting to move. Some non-RTO layoffs are also happening, but the largest group is made up those who chose to leave.

“ Unfortunately, this is the psychological state of every employee: constantly looking over their shoulder, unsure of when the next shoe will drop. It's simply no way to live.”

Who is the mooorron that down votes this ?

True...more large layoffs are coming. Mid-Markets continues to move to a converged, non-bifurcated model where all reps sell both wireline and wireless as in the past. Why pay for 2 employees when 1 will do? Expecting announcements in a few weeks.

It's a bunch of different things. There are layoffs slotted for every month of the year and there is a calendar of all the associated activities. A lot of tomorrow is RTO related but not all. As far as the waves, different people work on different projects with various critical dates so you will see those who declined to move go off roll at various times.

If you are thinking everyone in a given wave all goes on the same date, no, doesn't work that way. As it shouldn't.
