Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why so many rumors

So people love to spread rumors of eisp packages no eisp packages .Being sold being bought being laid off.Now we came up with the rumor that now that prudential handles the Pension they no longer want to do lump buyouts in future once contract is over.I mean really no one knows anything no one in the union no one in management no ones sisters husbands brother who works for someone who told someone else. Its all bull till it happens. And dont count the money till its in the bank.Plan your future as if nothing is gonna be different then it is.Too many old cripple way over senior workers taking up space not letting their union brothers ,sisters move up or at least have some piece of the pie .I mean good god if your over 30-35 years in have tons of money then either just leave or deep six it already.Pretty positive the younger guys not even so young anymore have had enough of the decades of the same people taking up space taking up vacation picks causing force adjustments on the younger guys just outright ridiculous some of this caused bu the union leaders themselves not thinking ahead .

Its a double edge sword unfortunately some older guys just cant go while some just wont go ,but In the end there is no doubt its up to them but also no doubt that their being here way beyond what was expected has had an effect on the less senior guys .I have no issue with the ones that cannot go for financial reason, but the ones that stay because they just wanna stay or dont have a life thats where alot of people take issue .Find a hobby go visit the rest of the country take a road trip .Fact is if you have the cash it may adversely affect you financially staying .

Some people don’t wanna leave because this is their life and have no outside interest. Some maybe made bad financial decisions. Whatever the reasons , it’s their call. Junior guys gotta wait it out.

To the person making the broad generalization that cot’s treat field techs line sc*m. There’s plenty of field techs such as myself that came in from the cold to the title that are johnny on the spot when a field tech calls with an issue. I remember where I came from. I remember cranky frame administrators and switchman that were rude and wanted you to buy them coffee just for swinging a wire. Not this guy.

I mean i can definitely see where the OP is coming from .Its been a much tougher road for the ones who started later .They never knew anything before the verizon way GPS ,discipline,Layoffs ,Force work,Force adjustments ,No one coming in means no one below them, no vacation picks .I mean in a way lets face it if some of the extreme senior guys that could go would have always been leaving all along most of this would not have been taking place.I fear that with where things are headed if the high senior guys dont go there maybe more pain for the less senior guys in the years ahead .Especially the ones hired after the no layoff clause date

OP 39 years and I am not going anywhere till I am ready. Where do these people come from? The petulance is beyond the pale. They need to put diapers and binkys on the service anniversary awards gift brochures.

No way sorry that whole put my time in dont mean dump. The time put in prior to 25 -30 years ago was a vacation compared to what the guys with 30 or less years have dealt with since the start .And when guys that have now 40-50 years had 10 years they had people under them .Sorry its time to stop being selfish and move the f over and yes this is from a fellow union member who has also put in decades of the same just not half a century cot techs are not really the favorite either the they treat the guys in field like sc-m sorry but time for grouchy old men to move on to green pastures

You put in your time and you reap the benefits. I spent over 8 years as an operator until I finally had enough seniority to get a UTP to construction splicer. For the first five years as an operator I had my choice of March or October vacations. Fast forward to now I have over 42 years and currently in the COT title. I get what ever vacation weeks I want and I’m exempt from shifted tours. Like so many before me I’m hoping for an IP offer. Every one’s circumstances are different. I’m in my early 60’s and still have a mortgage. So yeah I ‘d like a signing bonus and 48 months of ip payments too help offset life’s expenses in retirement. Who are you to suggest that anyone should step aside?! I’ve paid my dues. Froze my butt off in the field for years in many splice pits. Spent many hours on picket lines, enduring more strikes than I can count. Now I’m coasting in the c.o. while I wait out an offer. I’ll leave when I’m good and ready.

This whole conversation is probably just one anti union troll talking to himself. You're a sad excuse for a human being. Maybe if the CEO wasn't making 25 million a year, while taking stuff away from the workers, the people with 30+ years could actually retire comfortably?

30-35 years. Lol. We got slugs in south jersey with 35-40 years. And a few senior citizens with well over 40 years. They never leave. they are giant parasites now . Su-king up anything good. And leaving nothing for the rookies and newbies with only 25 years.

@OP, and if you’re young and don’t have dependents why are you even here? Life will pass right by you, do something about it while you still can. Like, I don’t know, spend a year in Europe or Japan, pick up a new skill, climb a mountain, anything but staying here worrying about other people’s pensions will do.
