Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

No pay raise last 10 years, grade 11 in CX, should I hope some?

Not sure if this is a norm or an exception? Most companies pay annual pay raises, but Cisco gets away from giving any raises. Even during 9%+ inflation, employees are scrambling to pay bills. It gets harder each year as inflation cuts more of the paycheck! At least some consolation having a job.

Only a G12 (speaking as an engineer) gets 100K of RSUs. If top of the top

G11 80-100k of RSUs??? Hilarious. I will guarantee no IC is getting that as a G11. I also don't believe for a minute no raise and you still managed to stay or be kept around. Maybe in grade that long - I can totally believe that long as I saw it as well. That doesn't mean no raise. and if you got stock - that's part of comp knucklehead.

your raise, RSU, promotion all depends on how much your manager like you. If you're not the favorite in the group, you ain't getting sh-t. For example, your manager might give you IPF of 1.0 but can give someone else in the group IPF of 1.5. It happens all the time at Cisco. Like others have said, move to a different group if your manager doesn't like you.

You are what's call a bottom 20% performer. How are you still here?

The amount of politics that happen in cisco even at lower levels is mind boggling people are stuck here without promos for years. They are fully aware you are not leaving cisco so will keep you like a slave to toil for master and keep you without any pay increases or promos. If your manager does not like you even a slight tiny bit jump the ship otherwise you are sc--wed.

This is how pay raise or promotion works in Cisco. There is an inner circle in almost every levels of the company. For the majority of managers, one has to be a member of the inner circle in order to receive pay raise and promotion. OP must be an outcast in his/her organization.

Was a 12 for years. No chance I was getting to a Principal. Best decision I ever made to leave.

You only get raises if you are falling out of the bands (most are). And mainly for lower grades. Raises get very tough at grades 10-12.

I’ve received a raise or stock every year for 10 years. What is wrong with you?

So I was a grade 11 for my 13 years at Cisco. I knew I was hired at over-median comp. Fast forward to the end, and I found out I was in the 99th percentile of comp for G11 in US. Just a couple of raises along the way.

Basically, they had reduced Grade 11 base comp for newer hires over time, and without a big adjustment to my base pay, I had crept up the comp percentile ranking. RSUs along the way were good though (and stock options to start).

So a similar dynamic may be working against you as well.

Someone here is talking about cisco failing to retain young talents. There is a healthy influx of indian people, a long waiting line if you wish, just say the word and your team will be repopulated ....

Looks like you like to stay at Cisco, then just be happy to have a job. You could be LR'd next time and will have no salary to worry about raise. If you are not happy about inflation and want a better pay then look for a job. 10 years is too long to stay at the same company especially if it is such a toxic company like Cisco.

We all got a “raise” 2 or 3 years back when Cisco took away some of the bonus and added it to base salary.

sure i can believe you can go 4-5 years with no raise but 10 is just a troll. I have been working for Cisco for 20 years now and I haven't met a single person working here that said they haven't got a single raise in 10 years. OP is a liar or a troll

Grade 11 “Engineering Technical Leader” here. This is a stagnant position where engineers often remain until they decide to leave or are let go. I’m not sure if I believe OP went 10 years with no raise, but going 4~5 years with no raise is common at this level. Cisco prefers RSU comp over base salary increases. There are many groups at Cisco that failed to retain young talent and are made up of mostly Grade 11’s with average of 15+ years at the company.

There is no way you can afford today's world with a salary that's 10 years old. A Cisco salary.
G11 don't get enough RSUs either. Maybe 80 to 100K a year and you need to be the top of the top to get that much.
So troll!

Some of you must still be living on your new hire high, there are technical leaders with twenty years and still in same grade and rarely get a raise. You get raises below grade 10 with low salary. It gets harder as you climb the ladder.

there's no way this guy go 10 years at Cisco without a single raise. If that's true he would have been gone already either from quitting or LR. What a troll.

How are you only a Grade 11 after 10 years ? Maybe you are not a leader and hence no raise

Dude you need to re-evaluate your worth. Why the F would you stay somewhere 10 years without a raise? 2 years in a row of no increase and I’d be gone.

If you’re not grade 8 or lower they want you gone. No one cares if you are good or talented. Cisco CX doesn’t care for ICs
