Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Hope everyone is recovering from Beryl

Shocking how early in the season this one hit! I am retired and relocated far from Houston, but feel for folks that still live there. Having spent over 25 years in Houston, I know what a pain it is to live without power and normal city functions. Be kind to your neighbors and colleagues, they may be having a harder time than you getting back to normal.

This shows the basic problem with the concept that somehow fee enterprise is better as a basic service provider than government. From central points perspective it is cheaper to just fix what breaks rather than doing system wide upgrades. Similarly power providers find it more competitive to push prices lower for 95 percent of the time rather than pay for the expansive upgrades that would be needed to made their systems reliable during 1% events (high winds and freezing temperatures). If you want a more reliable system you need some government regulations (maybe high penalties for failures), but Texas politicians have no appetite for that! So, not unexpectedly, you get what you vote for!

Fourth time in the last three years I've gone without power for over 5 days.

Energy capital of the world, my backside. I'm out of here.

These are the times you have to ask yourself a basic question: " why should I live and put my family in such a huge miserable situation year after year?" Is it worth it?

Did Chevron HR offered the affected a mop and a quart of bleach, like they did for Harvey?

All things considered, simply wonder why wouldn't these companies consider a project to bury lines, it may take years of it, but you have to start sometime, somewhere
