Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Left after 5 years at WF

On my own. Didn’t wait to be laid off and get severance. I figured at one point that this job and industry in general isn’t for me. I completely shifted gears, went for a much smaller and cozy company in an entirely different industry. I’m paid well, have good benefits, but more importantly, stress is gone! I don’t know if it’s because it's a much smaller place so there’s no that much aggro or competition, or because there is a significantly smaller number of people so work is easier to organize, or that the nature of the industry is such that people are more laid back. In any case, I never stay after hours, nobody is creating tension or making you feel under pressure, and guess what? I do much more work than I ever did in WF. And go home singing.

Wow.... quite a different post than most.... kudos. Took a positive attitude and control of your situation and moved on to a better gig. You show that it is really up to the individual. It is the American way... to find your own way and there are many choices one has. There are too many bed wetters and dooms day posters here full of gloom. The change first starts in your own mind. I got canned and got a full year's severance. Life could not be better. Come to this site to see who the gladiators have selected and are dragging into the arena for torture. I spent almost 40 years on the wild stagecoach ride. Glad you made a positive change and hope your post inspires others when they are getting booted off this stagecoach as it is headed off the cliff. Good luck OP. Nice post.

Congrats. Changing fields is not that difficult for people who are not attached to their fields. Attachment leads to suffering.

My assumption is smaller companies could have a bit less bureaucracy and complexity. Consider how you need like 50 people to get anything done at WF and how much easier it is when it's 10 or less. Then you add in all the competing priorities and agendas and it just grinds everything to a halt, yet you're held accountable as if you have any real control over it.

I think the disadvantage of going to a smaller company might be less opportunity for advancement overall.

If what you're saying happened recently then you're lucky.

The corporate job market is atrocious right now.
