Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Making heads or tails of the VSP timeline

We had about approx 2 weeks from the announcement to when the window opened to volunteer. Then, they give us 5 weeks to push the button. Then they give us a week to change our mind. And then they take 2 1/2 weeks to let us know.

Why?

I think some of the time is for people to meet with a financial advisor or whatever they need to do so I can see that time justified. But I don't understand why we need 5 weeks for that. I don't understand would they would give us a week to change our mind and that is the only permanent choice because you cant go back if you do.

Managers and remaining leaders need to triage what work still needs to get done. Bear in mind, a lot of band 5 staff will take the sweeter package they get. In 6 months, you will have a flatter, leaner, Verizon with many more workers in India.

There will be a RIF post VSP. Sam’s email was clear about this. If you are an employee not coming back to the office, on any type of PIP or even a warning, giving your boss any static in any way you will be RIFed. The goal is 20-25% of all employees offered with highest in my IT group. Ask your director point blank if they were asked to do a rank and stack or if they were asked to name critical roles that Vz could not live without to keep the lights on.

Maybe because people were out? I’m not sure how they do it but a few folks on my team have been off for one or two two weeks during the process.

Most of VSPer will be gone by Sept, remaining will go by Dec
chance to be asked to leave on March 2025 is slim to none

And then just 4 weeks and 2 days for the 1st wave to go. If you are in the March 2025 group it is 10 months from when they made the announcement on June 4. That is an agonizing wait.
