My biggest concern is surviving between the last paycheck and the vsp/pension payout.

Yeah. I’m that broke.

People do live paycheck to paycheck. And don’t say he/she shouldn’t have accepted, this is an opportunity to move on. Good luck to many of you who are in the same boat.

Now that the volunteer period is over I find that my concern is living till the august approval date. Once I make it that far and get approved they’ll pay out my spouse. Until then it is at their discretion.

OP says, "My biggest concern is surviving between the last paycheck and the vsp/pension payout."
Hey, OP, my biggest concern is the health and welfare of my children.
Try getting your head sc--wed on straight, and learn how to prioritize what's truly important in life.

I hope is a facetious post. If not, Verizon is losing nothing by getting rid of you

If the pension is all you need to live the rest of your life and you can’t save enoigh before 9/13 to survive to 10/1 through expense reductions or reducing 401k contributions to match level there are plenty of apps for that. I see the commercials on freevee where someone applies in line at the grocery because the broccoli is too much.

@hqu+1tzPEnmO The economy IS better than ever; just look at the stock markets. It's the job market that su-ks; which tends to be felt by workers, not corporations. Corporate profits and share values are at all-time highs. The job market su-ks because corporations are not investing those profits internally; they are investing them in other corporations and stock buybacks.

Also, can you take a small loan now from your 401K to close the gap? I'm not sure what the rules are on paying it back, but you pay the interest to yourself. Call Fidelity - ask about hardship rules. Or stop paying into your 401K now, and put that money aside for the next two months.

If you happen to live in NJ (or other state that pays unemployment) be ready to file for it the first day you are eligible. Go on the website now and figure out what documents you need so that you are ready.

If you have a December roll off and the check comes after January 1st, will the date of the check be January and would it be taxed as 2025 income?

Pension shouldn't matter as you'd roll that into an IRA.

Sign your severance agreement as soon as it becomes available and you should have it within about 3 weeks. You have plenty of time before 9/13 to save some $ to carry you over a few weeks. With luck your vacation (if you have any) will be paid the check after you leave.

Everyone is broke with this inflation going on in the U.S.A but the govt says the economy is better than ever B.S.

Yeah, the language in that is a bit vague - could be 30 days but it could go all the way up to 60. I'm banking on 30 days but my gut tells me it will only be a couple weeks for severance. The other stuff (RSU, for example) may take a little longer.
