Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Move on

Gosh, saw the announcement and figured to check this board today. Lots of activity; good luck folks.

Getting LR'd can be the best thing that happens to you. Trust that whatever happens, you can't do much about it. Move on.

Getting the boot just over five years ago was honestly live changing in the most positive way. Lots of ups and downs mentally the first six months out, but so glad.

I look back at who I was for my last five years at Cisco, and do not recognize that nervous, constantly stressed out person.

If you get it, think of it as a higher power has better plans for you.

It definitely doesn't work out for everyone, but I agree in general it's not the end of the world. The package is somewhat generous (at least the previous cycles, anyway). I don't think Cisco is "Best Place to Work" - far from it - the place has way too many problems, but ultimately it's still keeping the lights on and food on the table for many families that might be impacted today. I wish impacted folks the best of luck.

Being LR'ed is never easy, and the market isn't so great right now. But don't fret.
Take this time to relax, spend time with friends and family, enjoy life a little, and regroup. Rethink your goals. Consider re-training if need be.

An old dog can learn new tricks. You're only as old as you feel. Don't give up. And don't listen to the naysayers. I was once LR'ed from Cisco, and it felt absolutely terrible. It was also a necessary wake-up call.

Wounds heal in time. You will get through this.

Unfortunately the job market is really bad with all the tech layoffs. I hope it gets better but unfortunately the economy su-ks. Powell raised interest rates to slow the economy and that means less jobs. Between Powell and these tech companies offshoring American jobs, those living in the US are in serious trouble,

Easy for you to say. It worked out great for you. It worked out great for me. However, for most, they have a long road ahead of them. There are super talented people in Tech that have been out of work for over a year.

Agreed! I was hit in a previous LR last year (my entire team was cut, including my boss), and it couldn't have worked out better. I landed in a way better position, in significantly better accounts...a better leader, and so on. I was super stressed when it first happened; I barely slept the first week and hustled like crazy internally and externally to find a new role. In under 90 days, I had four very good offers. That taught me that everything happens for a reason and even when the path forward is scary (especially when you have health stuff going on and need your insurance)... if you keep trying, the tide will turn.
