Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

India titles

Why is it I have a lowly BEC title and people in India have higher rated titles when I have much more experience and are training them? When I am fixing their work. I mean why do I have to explain Boise is not a person but a city? Yet they have higher titles.

Good rule of thumb- subtract one level from an offshore Wells Fargo worker and that’s probably their level.

Think caste system. Titles are VERY important to people from India.

Additionally, educated Indians have many opportunities. They can be very mobile. Giving them a higher title helps with retention.

It's like they want us to suffer. Older white males. We have given a lot to this bank. We used to get some recognition --- now we get nothing.
Our careers are on a death march.

@ttp The worst of the offshore employees I've worked with are the most egregious about lying on their resumes. Someone who was a lowly button pusher was suddenly a manager who drove major projects (that didn't exist) once they no longer worked for us.

India operates this way and steals jobs by being underqualified, then management wonders why they're always slow and late with work. Yet in the US, you must be severely over-qualified to get an entry-level job. American capitalism is broken, the greatest transfer of wealth in history is accelerating every day.

This is not a joke, but i've had former indian coworkers here who used to be contractors and produced no work for close to 2 years. After they left changed their linkedin to executive director and claimed to be in charge of a department of a bank. Seemed to work too. I've seen lots of new hires here into sr mgmt or director level titles know exactly zero and produce zero for a good year or two. The harder you work here the more they dump on you and never move up.

the titles and responsibilities have never been aligned. a higher title in India does not equal the same here in terms of expectations so stop trying to compare apples to apples. Some of this is likely cultural since they tend to care a lot more about titles than we do. Just look at how many of our offshore counterparts put their officer titles in their emails sigs or on LinkedIn.

Why don’t you offer to take one of the India folks titles AND their pay? Seem fair to you?

Why are you fixing their work? Go to your management and tell them you can't fix their work until you get your title changed? I found that at this bank you had to change positions every 3 to 4 years. It appears that this is getting harder to do.

It's cheaper for Wells to give grandiose job titles than higher pay.

You are asking "why"? Simple. These things happen because you seem to be asking a forum board to answer for your management team. I ask you. Who knows you best? This board or your managers? They are the ones you need to ask.

Good luck in your next job?
