Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We're everybody's last choice

Every new hire is mediocre at best and awful at worst. I guess we've reached a point where nobody good wants to work here.

In my hub, it's hard to get anyone to accept. Once they get far enough for a location visit, seems they decline.

If I had to interview someone, I would honestly tell them about the toxic work environment and any smart one wouldn't accept. Wouldn't be surprised if that's also what is happening if they don't see it for themselves.

There are new college students - such as myself that work and have quota. I can't say the same for those that are in different regions, but I know we work hard to get to where we're at.

We’ve had a 3-4 college hires in the last few years and they are quite smart & capable. Some came through LDP/TDP. Can’t speak for all teams/depts/all general new hires but our team has been quite happy with their presence & performance. They were hired in hub locations or are moving to a hub.

Maybe things are different in other parts of the company, but new college hires I’ve seen are top-notch folks - really smart and hard working.

Or maybe the folks posting here are just bitter, tired, old men, who are unhappy about everything.

Have a great day!

The majority of employees aren't going to be college educated because the vast majority are retail, call center, or techs. This is like saying "Most of my sports cars are fast, idk why all these other cars are so slow!"

Idk what you do, but I've been to dozens of stores, multiple states, and I've met the majority of techs and reps. I don't know a single person below director level that is happy working here.

I wish I were trolling or exaggerating, but that is the reality. And before someone says "just quit", don't you think they would if they could? They don't quit because it pays just enough for it to be difficult to find something comparable and the job is draining enough that it's difficult to look around.

You must not realize how hard our front line folk are being pressured. All the sales people are being told to do fraud or lose their jobs, and the techs are being overworked. Most of the ones I've spoken to recently are working 60+ hrs a week. What would you do with extra 20 hours a week? How do you even do anything besides work when you're trapped like that? Have some empathy, we're all people here.

"Every new hire is mediocre at best and awful at worst" AGREE !!

This is not new, began with the consent decree in 1973, that was the beginning of the end. (that's when the "how many boxes can you check" started being important in the hiring/firing process) It really started getting highly noticeable in the mid nineties but now, it's just blatant. Every one of the college newbies think they were hired because they're "special" and already know everything and are completely unwilling to try to learn, they even get insulted when you or anyone try to teach them.

All college and qu0t@s - no understanding or experience, or as we say in Texas,

All hat - no cattle........

Sad. When I was hired years ago you had to compete, get tested and have multiple interviews. I had no idea we have sank that low.

He’s a mean one….Mister Stank…… Your heart's an empty hole….. I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole!

The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote
"Stink, stank, stunk!"

Ah! Another of the Stink's goals met! But no one could be as incompetent as the Stink!
